Polly, I am right on your way if you're heading to OKC. You can come see my iris too! Wichita has a lot of serious iris growers and a few pollen dabblers. we're 2 1/2 or 3 hours north of OKC, close enough that I have attended their club meetings and sales. We're also 3 hours south of Kansas City, so I belong to that club too. They have wonderful sales and some real experts. Our regional meetings are terrific. Our club has 3 shows a year, one of the few clubs that can do that. Since I live outside the city by 2 short miles, my flowers bloom a week or so later. I've been able to bring TBs to the late show when everyone else is showing species iris. I didn't get to show anything this year because I was sick, but I'm hoping for next year. Enid, I hope you enjoy the club. When I go to meetings, I get this happy feeling that I'm finally with people who truly understand.
There's clubs for Hosta, daylilies, roses, organic gardening, herbs, ponds, bonsai, african violets, peonies, Lilium, natives, and Master Gardeners. At one time or another, I've joined them all. I've thought about starting a club for Perennials in general, but I don't have enough time for commitments I already have. Some of the clubs have excellent newsletters or journals. I keep my old AIS and TBIS journals, and sometimes find more at the plant sales. They are a great source of detailed info.
