No, they have corn on what's left of it. You have to know that this is some of the richest soil in the US, and of course the morons annexed most of this land to the city and some huge ugly buildings have been and are being constructed on it. One building is a General Dollar distribution center, and the building itself covers about 4 + acres, and another 15 acres are covered with concrete for parking and trucking. They have huge lights that light the night so bright that it's almost impossible to see the stars at night. The city wanted to annex another 3000 acres, but the public made such an uproar, that they put it on hold for 30 years. I guess they think all us old fogies who care about the earth will be dead then, so they can proceed with destroying what's left of this land. Grumbling Crying

That is such a sad story Tom. Thankfully, I live in very rural America. I have to drive to get anywhere to shop, even the closest Dollar Store is 15 miles away. I love my Amish neighbors!

I am so thankful for the internet, it helps me stay connected but also lets me know how hectic many folks lives really are.

Tom, we have the same problem: pavement, lights, noise, people! It's not what it was. "Progress" stinks!

A Dollar General is currently being erected in the middle of our rural Somerset community. I hope it won't be a trend. The current commercial enterprises are: wineries, farms, (including Bluebird Haven Iris Garden) a post office and restaurants. On the outskirts are an animal hospital and market, with a few shops including a hardware store and beauty parlor.

They take us at least 20 minutes to get to any of them...but a DOLLAR GENERAL??? That should go into the city of Placerville, or other neighboring towns.

Dollar General seems like an ersatz grocery store in some small towns I've been by. We found it useful when camping, we got simple food there. I'm glad it isn't my grocery though.
Plant it and they will come.
