Muddymitts said:I agree with you Celia -- I like a variety too. It would be impossible for me to pick just one type of Iris as a favorite. It's much easier to pick what I DON'T like -- I don't care for Irises with speckles and splatters. Probably because I love the look of velvety-looking petals. Smiling

Edited to add: On the other hand, I love the new Irises that they're coming out with that have heavy veining on the falls!! Go figure.............

I agree with you. I don't care for the Irises with speckles and splatters either, cuz I love the look of those velvety falls, and Yes, it's easier for me too to pick what I don't like. Smiling

Yes Smiling I also find myself drawn to the Luminata's. I've looked at a lot of really beautiful ones this year, but didn't have any more room for additional rhizomes !

Denman, There are times when I feel the same way, when I post here, or on FB, or another forum, and no one replies to my post. I feel, boo hoo, no one loves me...but you just have to shrug it off...
As for my preference in irises, I really like the ones that will grow well for me! Other than that, I like a variety of color and shape. Purple based foliage PBF is a special love. I keep trying new varieties, both "new" and "old" and am gradually expanding my collection of what grows well for me. It is very exciting, and I love to share that excitement with other iris addicts!

I'm still looking for my favorite, that's why I have around 600 of them. Once I think I have found it, out comes the new intros, and I'm back thinking I have to have that one, It's going to be my favorite for sure. And it is for a while, until the next batch of intro's comes out. It's a lot like the guy at the bar saying, just one more beer! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I know, I'm hopeless.

I have already shrugged it off. I feel better. I'm over it...
I do agree, I find that the new introductions coming out are fascinating and exciting.
I grew up with lovely pale lavender grape-scented Iris, and that's when I fell in Love and have waited for the day that I could create my own beautiful Iris garden ! It's arrived ! Hurray!

Lately, my preferences are running toward Iris that don't rot and die in all this rain, heat and humidity. When Mother Nature behaves herself, new colors and patterns tend to catch my eye. Iris by Blyth and Ghio often go on the "I Want" list.

Welcome! Back!

There's a bunch of the garden pictures on one of these sites. I have to get ready for a BD party, so don't have time right now to re-post them. ttfn

Glad you're back, Patrick! And I agree with you Pam, I have quit buying Blythes' as I have had so many that died. I am looking for hardy long livers that thrive with what I can offer them.

I'd add Keppels and TomJohnsons to the Ghio and Blyth list. And some newcomers too!

Enjoys or suffers cold winters
Our club had its sale yesterday & talking to the customers we found a lot of preferences. Some were matching colors in their gardens, some were new & trying to figure out their growing conditions, so there were many ideas of what they wanted in their garden.

One person was overjoyed at the last photo of TB 'Spartan'. there is a color & a historic in one package.
