I overwintered one in the sunniest window once and it bloomed for a long time. At one point, maybe in January, it stopped but once I planted it outside, it took over the garden!

That looks so awesome.. after my Cinderella was shipped this year .. a couple pieces broke off in the box.. I stuck the pieces in a container on my deck and they all rooted.. have to love them

I purchased a purslane plant from a local "big box" store and have some planted, and some trying to root. Can't wait to see what happens!

How are folks' propagations doing?

I've been having a blast! This all came from a few stems saved inside over winter.

I've not done any cuttings but I love your hanging planter in the last photo.

TYVM!! It's a wire thing that used to be the lid for a mini conservatory. It's hanging upside-down and lined with window screen so the dirt doesn't run out. It's been fun to see which little snippets of various plants can survive in the brutal conditions. The sun shines on that pot from about noon-4/5 PM. It had other stuff last year which has moved on to other locations. These various cuttings have been added over summer, strictly impulsively. The cuttings of P. umbraticola added last weekend are especially impressive, taking root & continuing to bloom while they do it. It's been over 95 every day.

This is the first year I've not done any hanging baskets. I have to water at least 3 times a day and just too much time. Brutal temps here too. Whew...

Whew! No doubt there are hotter places where I am. They would probably have fine luck with cuttings now too, in whatever conditions the mama plants do well in their locations.

I've stuck some pieces in way less than all-day sun, a few in just a couple hours of morning sun. Seems to be enough for blooming, if one doesn't mind a relaxed/dangling attitude. They eventually do that on the ground or in a pot anyway (if one ever stops snipping off the long stems, like I've still been doing.) All spring/summer/fall, this plant is always there for me when I just vaguely need to snip & propagate something. Winter attempts haven't been so great. Not necessary, but, u know, I got bored.

I didn't propagate this year due to a crazy schedule. But I've found just plugging them into the dirt here in Arizona (up to 118 degrees) does the trick. The purslane loves the sun!

I've read a few articles that say you don't have to put the Purslane cutting in the dirt. You can just lay them on top of the dirt and water. I'm trying this today. Has anyone had luck doing this?

Those pieces may take root but there will probably be unnecesary die-back & generally slower results from the process taking longer, causing unnecessary dessication. If ends are buried, there's not usually much foliage wilt & flowers keep blooming while roots form.

Yes, you really should bury the stems like Tiffany suggested.
