Happy 42nd Claudia!

My anniversary of 36th is coming up! I can't believe I have been married THAT long! Where does the time go????!!!

Happy belated anniversary, Claudia and Lin!

Not much in the way of bird happenings here, except for chickens! They learned how to escape their enclosure, so some modifications were made. We came home one day and found teenage chickens all over the front yard. Thankfully all were accounted for. None dared cross the road.

Thanks y'all and Happy 42nd Anniversary to you @Claudia! and Happy soon to be 36th to you too @Beckygardener!! I remember my mom telling me that the older you get, the faster the years seem to pass and boy was she ever right!! It seems like I just turned 67 and it was 5 1/2 months ago!!!

A little while ago my husband was outside with the dog and called me to bring my camera out saying there were Otters in the water behind the house. So, I managed to get a couple of pictures of otters and then a hummer flew right by me and went to the firespike flowers. I also got a shot of a juvenile Red-winged Blackbird that was perched on the power line.

The Otters are always fun to watch; there were 5 altogether but I only managed to get one shot with four of them, the others were all single. They are so curious and started swimming over towards our yard. They never get too close but it sure is fun to watch them, watching us! The lighting was off in a couple of the photos because of the sun glaring on the water.





I also managed a quick shot of this Dragonfly that landed on the tip of a Palm Tree spike and a little Green Anole Lizard peeking out from a tree:

We posted at the same time. Great critter and bird shots! And the otters must be quite entertaining! How cute the whole family was out for a swim! I adore your hummer. I haven't seen a hummingbird here in over a week. Perhaps they are starting to head south or west to Mexico ....

Becky, the hummers seem to be getting sparse here during the middle of the day, probably because of the heat. They seem to come around now early in the morning and late in the afternoon or early evening.

The hummingbirds might be trying to stay cool or they might have found some goodies growing nearby, either some natives or other nectar sources. The trumpet vines are blooming all around here.

I see Christine broke the news early! No stealing the moderator's thunder! That is rule number one. Seriously, you guys know I'm way more into butterflies but I'm trying to learn (and relearn, in some cases) birds. So be nice and hold my hand through the process!

Not too much action here due to all of the rain. Still a lot of Great Egrets and Sandhill Cranes but their usual cow pasture has become too flooded with water. But there's still plenty of other places to hang out.

Ooops! Sorry but I saw your moderator Badge and got excited. I only mentioned it on this thread so I didn't take ALL of your thunder!

I guess it serves me right and now I get to be the first person you scold!
