As most of you know, I moved house. Since moving and building my new greenhouse I've been a bit sad because I hadn't seen any Anole lizards in it this whole Summer. In the old greenhouse I had a whole colony of Anoles living there and actually was able to pet more than a few. This morning when I did my morning walkabout I saw a newborn Anole. It made my day! I'm so delighted to have them take up residence.

What's the lizard-things that have a bright blue tail? I have lots of those as well.

Perhaps that's what it is. It looks (to me) more like a lizard than a snake. I will have to Google it and see if that's what it is. Thanks, Cheryl.

Skinks LOVE cockroaches - that makes them wonderful!
Glass snakes are really legless lizards.

Alice, how did you make out with all that flooding in SC?

I have a shipment of bromeliads going to @Debbie in Orangeburg, SC, but I don't know whether I can ship them. Some areas of SC has no mail service because of the flooding and road/bridge destruction.

Thanks for asking Ken. It is close and there are many flash flood warnings but we are fine down here in our little corner of the state. We were in Asheville for the weekend and yesterday we drove home with no problems whatsoever but we saw a number of exits into Columbia that were blocked off for flooding. I 95 to the north was closed but we were going south. We came through Orangeburg along the interstate and everything there looked fine. While low lying areas would be pretty wet I think that area, in general, is at least OK. It is Charleston and Columbia that got hit the hardest. Too much development and not enough planning for stormwater. Joachin, while well offshore, was blowing the ocean towards the shore and the rivers cannot empty against the tide. They are filling up from all the storm drainage and the water can't go anywhere. It has been the perfect storm.

This was the sea wall in our Waterfront Park yesterday. OK - but not by much.

Ken, I need to amend my last message. There are parts of Orangeburg that might be flooded, I completely forgot there is a river that goes through town and some swampy areas around. The part I saw was good but the water is still rising and more and more places are being impacted.

I just learned my former home in Columbia is under water. Who would have thought???????

It's going to get really bad for the people living near rivers and streams because dams are failing upstream and combined with the swollen rivers, it's all coming our way via the rivers and groundwater. They are evacuating all the people within a mile of the rivers like Edisto and Ashley.

I have contacted the lady and asked what her USPS situation is. I would prefer to be on the "caution" side rather than have the bromeliads sit for a week.

I was so fortunate yesterday, we didn't see anything other than there were exits off the interstate that were blocked and the Congaree was higher than I have ever seen it.
