Kevin, groups visit my gardens, but primarily, I am best known for my shade garden which includes an enormous collection of hostas.

I never intended to collect daylilies; however, when I noticed that they helped to dampen the frequency of depression, I started to buy large quantities.

Eventually, I became a wise shopper, knowing what I wanted in a daylily. I add more of those daylilies that I like the most. I also like to bid on daylilies when no one else seems to be interested.

I do hybridize, but I really have problems with waiting two or more years to see the first flower of my effort. I have many seeds in my refrigerator, including some that I pollinated in my living room this last winter. The latter I will plant this month.

I recently retired from teaching and I have a lot more time to work outdoors. I am way behind in my work. It will take me at least two more seasons to have the daylily beds better organized and better weeded. I work outdoors 60 plus hours every week.

This is part of my mental health treatment which my insurance does not cover.

I feel ridiculous posting since I have no big long list but oh well! Space is tight here so one had to leave for every new one that came in.

Between NWGDS club auctions, Springtime in Savannah, AHS events, and the Lily Auction, I added a lot more this year than I planned to, but isn’t that always how it goes? I am so excited to see all of these bloom next year! I highly recommend purchasing from David & Doris Bishop, Tim Herrington, Paul Owen, Bob Roycroft, William Marchant, Scott Elliott, and Nicole DeVito.

Gerry - 162 ... WOW! THAT is a LOT of daylilies! I think you win the prize for the most daylilies purchased this year! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

You wrote, "This is part of my mental health treatment which my insurance does not cover." Gardening is the BEST therapy that I know of. And probably a lot healthier than most other options. (And it beautifies the earth in the process.) Wouldn't it be great if health insurance companies covered "gardening supplies" for mental health treatment? Thumbs up Big Grin

Gerry, i love hostas too but i only have two options for planting. Against the back of the house for morning sun and along my short walkway to the front porch. I get tired of weeding the back so i planted some really big ones to block out the sun from the weeds. Of coarse they will also eventually overtake what is planted next to them but thats life in the garden always moving and changing things up and never getting bored
I can also see how daylilys can be therapeutic as my spirits are lifted every late June to see success and beauty in my garden. Even the weeding can bring a sense of accomplishment when you can finally step back and see just how much nicer the bed looks when those weeds are gone.
And yes waiting maybe 2 years to see results is big reason why i keep collecting without crossing anything. However the longer i wait the better my collection gets so i will have some great ones to work with.
I bet your property is simply beautiful.
Becky, i do have a Health Savings Account and i can draw cash from it or debit. Lets see, i need some some more peat moss, landscape timbers......

Blinking Blinking Wow, those are some incredible lists!!!! I was doing good this year, had 4 empty spots and ordered 4 new ones. Then they came... along with 3 bonus plants. Friends sent me another 5 new ones, and then I was the chair for our regional auction. Know when you are in deep trouble?.... when you are putting together a plant list and powerpoint with images of 160 daylilies for an auction! Another 9 followed me home from the regional Whistling How many daylilies does it take to fill 4 empty spots in the garden? Answer...21.

Char - I kind of had a similar thing happen to me. I will have acquired 35 total once my last bunch arrives. No complaints though ... but like you ... I have to create some more room for them. I am on a mission to build another raised bed to squeeze them all in! Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Thumbs up For me, this is really exciting, because I've never owned registered daylilies before now! Drooling Drooling Drooling
