Thanks for the bud count and bloom performance. Did your scapes have more blooms prior to this season?

I think I did have more bloom last summer. We had good rainfall this spring and I fertilized so I don't know what the problem would have been, other than maybe I over pollinated it last year.

I was wondering because you had mentioned rain and good results for rebloom on many of your plants. I guess Margo Reed Indeed was not impressed with the rain and fertilizier like some of your other daylilies. She has a mind of her own. Or you could be right and the amount of pods you set on her last season affected her performance this season. (I have wondered about that with some of my daylilies, too.)

We did also have an unusually cooler summer than last year so maybe not enough heat too.

I have MRI in two locations and the first has been blooming for over a month and the second just had its first bloom.

My first clump increased from four fans to eleven in its first year in the ground. The second clump was planted as two fans last fall and has four scapes this year.

The scapes are short and the color is not white but the form is delightful.

I garden at 8,000 feet on the western flank of the Sangre de Christos, zone 5/4.
I’d rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned.

MRI has grown here since it was first introduced. It is a good performer here. I agree with Jim, the main fault is that the scapes are a bit too short. The genetics of some of Jim's cultivars causes them to produce proliferations. MRI is one that does this, although not nearly with the same frequency of some others. I went out to look at there's only one prolif on MRI this year, whereas Jim's 'Rocket Science, ' growing right beside it, has at least half a dozen prolifs. No problem here with crowded blooms.
Here are a few pics taken of it over the years.
The first pic was taken in 2005, and the second was taken this year !

My Margo Reed Indeed isn't doing that great. I get very few blooms on it. But I know what the problem is and I'm going to fix it as soon as we get some cooler weather. I grow my Daylilies in containers and when I first started out I used regular potting soil to plant them. Some did ok but many didn't. I've sense learned to make my own potting mix with pine bark fines. Plus I now use milorginite and alfalfa pellets in my mix. The plants I've repotted in this new mixture have done amazing. I'll leave a report on MRI next year after its been growing in the new mixture.

Joy - Thanks for your report. I also grow mine in pine fines (bark) mixed with top soil, milorganite, and alfalfa pellets, but mine are in the ground. Growing them this way, I've also seen an improvement with my daylilies! Thanks for giving some good advice about growing conditions for daylilies! I look forward to your additional performance report next year on this thread! Thumbs up

MRI seems to multiple very fast for me. Maybe the fact that I plant all the prolifs close by so they just grow into the mother helps. This year I only have one prolif, but normally at least 6. I will agree that the blooms are just a little short, but I have it planted very near the front sidewalk so it is usually viewed from above. No problem with the blooms being too crowded to open that I have noticed.
