Enjoy looking at your blooms everyone. Not so easy to grow in colder climates but they go crazy here in Hawaii, never stop growing. I can't cut a branch off without sticking it in a pot.

Maybe this is not the place to ask but what is tagging and how do you do it? I'm new to the ATP complexities. And how do you get those little guys along the bottom into you message. I try not to spend too much time learning computer, I'd rather be out in the garden and growing Epis. Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Thanks

700 plants, and I thought I had a lot with around 250 cactus and succulents! But I guess 'a lot' is relative. I've pretty much filled up my available space and am not looking for more plants. I guess that is sacreligious for a plant person to not want more plants, but I've reached critical mass.

Microb.....I don't know about tagging, but for other things, go to the home page and click on the figure of a person on the top right. Then chose site preferences. That is where you can customize your posts.

microb - to tag people you write the @ symbol with their username behind it. No spaces. So @microb should give you a message that I've tagged you.

The little symbols are all along the bottom of the box when you are typing a new message. Smiling Just click on the one you want to use. Thumbs up

Thank you Hetty, I'll give it a try - heavy rain forecast for next two days so should have time to play on the computer.

Hi Kelli, I feel fortunate to have the space, but now feeling the pressure of the obsession. Watering now takes about one hour. I have to keep them under cover as we get TOO MUCH rain in our rainforest environment. I ran out of bench space so went vertical putting up rods for hanging pots. Now ran out of that space so putting up another greenhouse. We should have bought a smaller piece of property.
But, hey, its a nice clean hobby, I don't drink, smoke or sit in front of tv watching sports - plants are a great alternative life style - good for the mind, body and soul.
Must get out and take some more cuttings Hilarious! Hilarious!

I wonder how my epis will take an El Nino winter. Some are under the porch roof but some are not. I didn't have them during our last El Nino.

Ohhhh, i am so impressed with the flowers and the variety. I can't grow cactus or succulents, i always kill them with too much water, and/or the rainy season kills them because i forget to bring them in. I love water, and have always been in the water or on the water or near the water. A friend gifted me with a couple of adorable cactus...i tried so hard to not give them water...i felt so sorry for them...here have some water it will perk you right up. When i found a tiny mushroom coming up in one of the cacti, i knew i was in trouble. I went into Zen mode by thinking "these plants are not happy when you give them water, and you want happy plants". They need some water, but how much is some?...well, it's a little bit, but not too much. How much is that? I have mushrooms growing in a cactus...i guess that is too much, but by then they are close to gone. So i am happy to learn about this Forum so i can, from time to time, enjoy these plants because some people know how much water is enough Smiling

Tarev - come and get some rain. We are forecast to get up to 10 inches in the next two days due to Tropical Storm Hilda. Average 150 inches a year.

150 inches a year? dang!
I wish you could share!
So is that the "rainy side" of the big island or the not so rainy side?
I can't imagine living on a volcano in the middle of the ocean in the constant pouring rain-- I had a friend who moved to some rainy island somewhere (before she vanished)--she said all the livestock had rainscald but the plants were happy
anyway

Tara I am so thrilled for you!

Beverly--that is too funny

It's the rainy side, 2200 ft elevation 18 miles above Hilo town. About 15 miles as the crow files from and active Volcano, Kilauea. Its really beautiful, don't know about rainscald but the plants love it. Walking through our forested area the moss glows green through the dripping trees.

Tara - Is that a night blooming epi?

My recent blooms were. They open up around midnight! And what a show it is!!! I hope you don't miss the bloom opening. Do take more photos of the flower when it does open!

No, not yet...Though it does appear to be 'ready'! Checked on it this morning. Seems to be hanging down more. Looking like it's getting 'heavy' and beginning to open.
Fingers crossed!
