Yes, I hadn't heard of John Burton before...and now I have some idea of his work after googling him. Wiki has some of his dwarf irises. I really liked the color of Howesie.
I'm here to be educated about irises - it isn't enough for me just to see them as pretty flowers ! I have a lot to learn.

Check out Glebe Brook. I have chosen that one from pictures more than once.

well, he lives here but I won't set him up. He does really like I. pumila, many of the plants are on slides & can't be scanned on our computer.

Thanks Linnea. Glebe Brook is a beauty. I especially like some of the names, as well. Naumkeag and Quogue sound like Native American names to me. What we talk about when we talk about irises!

Thanks Lucy.

I am very impressed with Chuck Chapman for his work with multiple reblooms in zones 3 and 4.

Lucy.

There are folks who can transfer slides to a CD or thumb drive.

If you are still growing those varieties, it might be easier - and certainly cheaper to take new pictures. Or, have pictures developed from the slides and have one of us scan them for you.

You do know Lucy has a very biased reason for liking John Burton? But he has some lovely iris. Check out the medians and dwarfs on Winterberry's site and you will find some beauties by John Burton. You will also find some beauties by Lucy Burton!

I tried some new photos this spring & the sprockets came off the attachments. If I learn to use my digital next spring I will try again. We have not had time this spring to get to the photography place to get the slides put on a disc.

I agree Linnea, Chapman has some beautiful iris. I am very drawn to Blyth iris but I love Burseen. Iris that are unusual (spoons, horns, pom poms), with crazy names (Dewuc Whatic, Elvis Dreaming, Go Get Yore Camera, etc.) and all with lucious scents! Lovey dubby
And Lucille Pinkston - wish wish wish I could find more of hers than just Owyhee Desert and Bruneau Jasper. Anyone have Owyhee Amethyst???

I like all of them but Blyth to me is a wizard of iris. I love his catalogues as his main iris always list the parents. I am trying hybridizing myself so I find that info of great value. Of course Mid America and Schreiner's blow me away too. Amazing work by them all.

I'm not sure I could pick a favorite, I love some from each and everyone of them. It might be easier to pick favorite irises from each hybridizer, or maybe not. One of my favorite Iris in my yard is a No ID ... I'll have to think some more.

I am not very "frilly." From a marketing standpoint, it is interesting to see how many people are.

I bought primarily Space Age with rebloom genetics and rebloomers as I would like to create some multiple blooming northern happy iris....guess I had better make some of them frilly. Smiling

That is just how they are listed, I suspect. The names have to do with the individual plant. We do keep some names in mind (or at least I do) & hope to get a plant to fit. Difficult to get a name which has not been used.

I can totally agree with that decision. It's such an incredible iris, not only beautiful, but a great grower and parent. Well deserved! I tip my hat to you.
