I would love to see a discussion on the correct way to grow these wonderful plants from seed. I have let the older varieties seed themselves, but have not attempted to propagate the newer varieties. It is my understanding that they cannot be divided as many other perennials can be.
Happiness is doing for those who cannot do for themselves.

I purchased mine from Park Seed and started indoors in winter. I used a seed starting mix soil, bottom watered with 3 tbls hydrogen peroxide to 1 gal of water mixture (to prevent damping off). Transplanted outside after frost date. BUT I have just let them seed themselves after that. I hope someone chimes in here about seed collection and storage.

You can divide but I would only do it in the Spring. I n the Fall they would not have enough time to grow a proper tap root.
