Thank You! Ellaine and thank you Melissa and Jim.

And I spoke too soon about just having two, a thirrd one came home with me today. Our Lowe's has the exact blue color I have and the lighter blue one plus 2 shades of pink. The rotballs are smaller than the one in the vases, same vendor, and they are in the plastic baskets but they are also $10 cheaper.

Gigi, you have such a beautiful plant there, I would go ahead and add it to the database. If the powers that be don't like your name all they can say is no (they say that to me a lot with species and sub species.) Sighing!

I found this site; Jim do these names tell you anything?

Thanks Alice, these are now added in the database,

I purchased this Vanda Pachara Delight #2 also known as Vanda Pachara Delight Pink for myself too at Lowe's, see below:

I also added whatever little info I know about these especially the propagation technique.

I'm not sure what you are asking, Alice. Just seeing Vanda Pachara Delight tells me it is Vanda hybrid. If I look it up in OrchidWiz, I know it was hybridized in 1999. If I follow the profile, I can see that it comes from a long line of hybrids but the two major parents are V. coerulea and V. sanderiana. It is a native to SE Asia and lives high up on the side of ruff barked trees. It has won 12 awards and has one offspring.

I meant the (Karulea x Gordon Dillon) that came after after the name Vanda Pachera Delight in that site I found.

Just went to Lowe's and ran by the garden center - no vandas, just dozens of phals. Sad

Jim, I didn't realize OrchidWiz is a paid subscription :).

I found this article online
http://orchidnature.com/orchid...

Alice do you have Kroger or Publix in your area? the vendor of both my Vandas is Silvervase and they sell through Publix, and Kroger also. They do sell to individuals but they have it more like a bulk order. Not sure what is the minimum purchase. You can also ask the Lowe's manager in your Garden Center, sometimes if the plant from other locations (in my case Lowe's Brandon, Fl) sells really good, the Manager of other Lowe's location would be willing to order them from the same vendor.

I did see those Vandas at my local Lowe's last time I was there, might have to go back when Marsh isn't with me and get one . . . That really is a gorgeous color and although I have one V. Tokyo Blue that will eventually bloom that color, it was a division and probably a year or more away from its first flowers.

OK, Alice, I understand. Vanda Pachara Delight (Karulea x Gordon Dillon) means the genera is Vanda which is always capitalized. The second term, in this case Pachara Delight, is the species name if it is in lower case letters but in this case, it tells me the orchid is a hybrid because Pachara Delight is capitalized. The (Karulea X Gordon Dillon) are the names of the parents. Thus, Vanda Karulea crossed with Vanda Gordon Dillon produced Vanda Pachara Delight. It is normally written V. Pachara Delight (V. Karulea x V. Gordon Dillon). Now notice both parents are also hybrid orchids which makes this orchid something called a Grex, a term used for the offspring of hybrid plants. Also since both parents are hybrids, the profile is long and complicated. What I told you above is that the two big hitters in the profile are the species orchids Vanda coerulea and Vanda sanderiana.

Understand?

Gigi, OrchidWiz is a computer software program that allows one to look up orchids and find out information about them like correct names, parents, awards, images, profiles and so on. I costs about $300 at the outset and after a year or so, you have to pay a yearly fee for continued updates, kind of like GPS devices. I use it to find the correct name and the parent's names as that information is required for judging. It is probably not worth it if you don't show your plants or if you are not concerned with the latest name changes. I'll be happy to look up the occasional name for you so don't rush out and buy it.

Yes, we must thank Jim often for our free use of his expensive OrchidWiz program. Thank You!

It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of OrchidWiz, but you can find the parents. I agree OW is a great program.

Thank You! Jim for a great info...on Vanda a Pachara Delight. Your statements above deserve a place in the plant database (re details about the plant). You are right, I grow mine for my own enjoyment....so not too worried about the names but thank you so much for the offer to look up names. I only have a handful of orchids all with no names.

Thanks Melissa for the alternative. If I have something to look up that has the minimum search info. I will use this one. I am Google search only at this time Rolling on the floor laughing

Absolutely, as long as you understood at least every second word of Jim's dissertation.

Jim is fluently Tri-lingual since he speaks Spanish like a native as well as Boffinese.

Me, I have some French although can't put much of a sentence together any more, and a smattering of Japanese but I understood the Boffinese pretty well.

I also speak Canadian pretty well, although my rellies all say I sound like an American now. They speak that up in "C eh N eh D eh "
