SS checks are a good way to increase spending on our plant addictions! Whistling

No, no, Carol. All the SS check goes towards orchid purchases. Like Dave Ramsey says, we can live on beans and rice. Whistling

I know a few folks that are trying to live on their SS checks. Not a way to spend the golden years.

C. Dinard, one of my most favorites.

And introducing V. Alan Ashe Patterson 'Dink Dink' a first bloomed seedling from Motes (Vanda testacea ‘Mary Motes’ CHM/AOS x Vanda garayi). They registered it for my brother on his birthday and it bloomed on his birthday (9/25). He would have been 37. Motes was kind enough to send me several of the seedlings to grow. So touched at their kindness.

Don't tell me your Dinard is in bloom, Melissa. Sticking tongue out Mine are doing nothing so far. Sighing! I do love those flowers. My one and only C. Caribbean Skiis is now showing two buds! If it makes it to a bloom, it will be the first. I was told that this is a very rare plant but I don't know its history. This is supposed to be what the flowers look like.

I think you mean to say Cattlianthe [Ctt.] Caribbean Skies (Ctt. Ariel x C. warneri). It was hybridized in 1974 by Stewart, Inc. It is mostly C. warneri with some C. bowringiana and C. gaskelliana. All of those are pink so I would expect to be on the pink side of the color pallet. I'm not sure how rare it is.

Whoops, the label is wrong, and it is the original Stewart label. I will change it. I don't know about the rarity. That's just what I was told. I really haven't taken the time to see if it is available on the web anywhere. If the flowers pop as hoped, I will take some good photos and post them. I know this orchid is not in the database, but then, few orchids are.

Roberta, I am sorry I cannot move Melissa's post to the October thread. Only Dave can. I did see the beautiful bloom and to tell you the truth, I was wishing too that it wasn't posted at the very end of the month.

woohoo, Melissa posted it again into the October thread! She "heard" us!
