@dirtdorphins I entered this one in our garden show as "most unusual" a couple of years ago. I still have it on the window sill but after two years, it's lanky. I think the planting hole needs to be larger next time.

I try to have one entry in "most unusual." After the judging, if it gets a ribbon, we sell it at the plant sale with the ribbon on it. I was afraid this one might not survive and the buyer would be unhappy..

It's cool that you have a garden show to enter!
I have a few spare corks around waiting patiently for some project...I was going to make a bee house or something...maybe I'll see how long I can torture a little rooted cutting of some incredibly tough plant I have too much of

Last year, I placed a Tillandsia off our oak tree ( ball moss) under a glass dome. It just happened to be blooming in time for the show. 'Got a first place ribbon. We were all giggling! It was obvious that the judges had never seen ball moss on their oaks.

If you do plant in the corks, I'd suggest drilling the hole a little bigger than I did mine. Maybe pencil size, so a little soil could remain to anchor the roots. I think mine just grew into the cork. The hole wasn't big enough to add any soil once it began to grow. I added a few pellets of fertilizer once in a while. And.....champagne corks worked best for stability.

@Poohdaddy. No need for credit. I saw some on Pinterest and was a bit skeptical that they'd survive. There were no instructions, so I just drilled the corks as best I could. (Need to drill larger holes so there's a little more soil for them to anchor in). They all survived, but I had too many that needed trimming and watering. I gave them away, except for the kalanchoe.
