Post the picture anyway Becky someone might be able to tel what it is
You can also try putting a saucer of sugar water away from the plant and see if they go to it and leave your plant alone.

I couldn't even capture an image through the glass and the darkness of the area plus the flash. My camera is not great at close ups like this and the area under the plant was dark.

The plant is on a rusty iron stand and the bees were going in from underneath to a small drain hole. This stand sits right by the patio door (the part that doesn't open) so I sat on the floor and watched. They seemed aggressive which is not the kind of bees I always had in my yard before I moved to this apartment.

Anyway, at one point no bees were there so I went outside to water and slipped a large clay saucer under the Spider plant. Then watered very well again. I like bees but not on my patio with my Grandson. A few came back and couldn't get to the hole and I have not seen any more for the past 4 hours.

I may have caught a hive building in progress but stopped it in time. I posted on Facebook and one friend said she had bees make a hive under a plastic chair of hers.

Thanks for letting me vent and for trying to help me, Margaret!
Group hug

I am sad I had to possibly trap a bee or two inside the pot but my grandson comes first. Sad

Not to worry they probably tunnelled out through the dirt. But if they didn't then they just added a bit of fertilizer to the soil.

A thirsty bee. I can see his tongue (proboscis?) sticking out towards the water. He's on a rock in a pot bottom with water in it.

She sure is isn't she?

Dang tabby! You are good and you must have a spectacular camera (or lens?). Confused

OK Folks...Here are the photos I promised back during the last Ice Age. After getting back to Houston, It’s been a real storm of activity. Between getting a new place whipped into nesting condition for Baby Girl and the long hours at work and commuting, I haven’t been on my ‘puter more than 15 minutes every other week or so and that only to attend to bills.
The Apian Cantina Fred has deployed consists of a repurposed cooler, an aquarium type filter pump and one of his lady’s cake pans. As you can see there is an abundance of ¾” rocks to give Da Girls a place to tickle their toes in the water. The rice you see is for color and that "tropical feel".
The last time we discussed his set-up, Fred was working to fine tune an idea he had for a small solar cell to power the pump and subsequently power down at dusk.
I'm going to post as many photos as I can here...

This is a neat idea for a 5 gallon bucket or actually any larger size container of water.

PVC pipe and fittings, plastic mesh, and zip ties and VOILA! your ladies have their own swimming raft. there is abundant surface area so they don't fall in and drown. I think the plastic will keep the BRing form sinking in case you don't do such a good job at joining PVC pieces together.

That looks like a neat idea. I've been wondering if foam wreaths would do the same thing since they come in several sizes and can be cut to fit any large container.

I bet the foam would work as well. I would have a concern though with the foam breaking down and sloughing off in the water... Shrug!
