This is a seedling I grew from seed of the above plant. Just a common houseplant but I've never grown one from a seed before . It ended up growing in essentially full sun. The parent grows in heavy dappled shade under an oak. The fuzz isn't quite as thick and it's got a bit more green than the parent, but those may be due to the difference in growing conditions or the age of the plant. The sillamontana grew true to type, I think. I repotted it last week since it was growing in a container with a small Meyer lemon. I thought it did well for a seedling and the conditions it was given to grow which were geared for the lemon, not Tradescantia.

No. It was really an accident. I make 'dirt' using stuff. I just took some dried up bloom heads, stems and leaves and crumbled them up in the mix. I do a lot of that sort of thing . I put all that in an empty potting soil bag for storage until I got around to using it. That batch was overwintered. Then when I upsized the Meyer lemon to a large container this spring, I used that bag instead of buying new potting soil (I'm cheap, sometimes). Other things came up. Mostly weeds - which happens when you have used potting soil and crumble dried leaves picked up off the ground and other things thrown in. Quite a bit of the weed seeds sprouting were crabgrass and I pulled this one up, but gave it a closer look because the single leaf was fuzzy. I recognized it and stuffed the tiny thing back in the Meyer lemon container. It lived and even sort of thrived. I have plants I'm growing come up like that. I have a slew of little asparagus fern plants that came up in various pots this year. I need to remember not to use that plant again, but I'm saving a couple to grow out just from curiosity. Most will get frozen this winter.
