Joseph, I somehow missed your April 5th post -- interesting that they had the reddish spots, and now they're all green! I hope you'll post photos when they start flowering Smiling

Hello all,

When you are planting 4 o'clock tubers (in the ground or in a pot) should you soak them in water before planting? Or do plant them and then water? Or just moisten the soil first and then plant them? Confused

Mine were overwintered in bone dry soil in the pot, indoors. They started growing and then I gave water.

I plant the tuber and then water them in.

Finally got around to planting my tubers today. In the process, noticed a lot of seed coming up. More imporrtantly, I discovered 3 tubers that got left in the grown and the overwintered! Admittedly, we had a very mild winter. But this WAS a first for me. Zone 5B.

But what the heck - I have cannas that have now been in the ground pushing 6 years. ~ 20 of them.

I'm in zone 7a and mine returned from tubers , leaving them in the ground. But I might just start digging them up to help keep them under control. I definitely like them but can easily see them getting out of control quickly. Should be interesting in the coming years.

Mine didn't winter over outside but the ones I brought in did. I still have a few sprouted in a bucket and lots of seedlings, so I might give the remaining tubers away.
