I just got Golden Panther this year--I'm super psyched to finally have it and I hope that it gives me a taste of how magnificent it will become eventually, next year.

I don't know if I will like where I put it, but, I have some golden-orange-coppery splashes in my purple and lavender area and I put it over with these two, which I really liked together last year (my taste could be suspect)

that's Mary Frances and Instant Attraction
Amigo in the background
and there's a deep blue-purple out of view to the left

We'll see...

I may have to rearrange...

Welllll,
I tried to plant a "themed' bed.... I had everything planted and then...
I traded some with a friend, theeennnn
we had a group auction, and I bought a few and got some "extras"...
aaaannnd I got a late shipment I forgot about.
And just when I thought I was done, there was a gal who was rescuing iris from a hybridizer's yard that was going to be turned under.

Needless to say, the plan went out the window as I squished all my new finds in anywhere there was a visible patch of dirt. Big Grin

Well after all this time I have to share my system of planting which makes every sense in the world to me and probably no one else. It meets my sense of balance and astentics. I have used it for years including my commercial plantings. This is it: They are planting by hybridizer first geographically starting in So. Cal. then north to the Pacific NW then swing around south to New Mexico then swing north again thru the Rocky Mtns., etc. ending up in New England. Then we go to foreign countries, Canada, Europe, Asia, ending up in Australia. Then they are planted by hybridizer, year of introduction, alphabetically. I only do this for the TB irises. Since I grow few of other beardeds, they are planting with the TB's using the system above.

If you're confused don't be surprise, since many people are but it makes every sense to me and that is what is important and is what gardening all about, isn't it?

Lestv said:I keep thinking I will have it all figured out by bloom time, color, etc. But then I get a suprise box or two, or another order, or the beds aren't ready when the iris arrive soooo I have organized chaos. Each section is a mix of colors but I make complimentary groupings. For instance, I put a section of red, white, and red and white together with dark purple and blue selfs leading into the next section. I also put my Dragons together, and I have a good concentration of space agers in my Spoon Bed (mostly Burseen's).
What is a Dragon or a Space Ager?

I always have my smalls to the front. Again planted as complimentary colors. In the Spoon Bed they are ones that fit, like Inner Space, and Bermuda Triangle, and Viper, with exceptions of course.
Weed= A flower yet to be appreciated
