My 2011 registration Stormy Morn can develop blooms 7-8+ " in height - standards and falls measured together, and nearly equal in width, since the falls head straight down and don't flare much at all. I registered the height at 34", but it regularly puts up stalks 40" or taller.

Theres no evidence of gigantism in either the the parents that i used -- Block Party X Sea Power, but this variety is quite a bit larger, foliage wise, stalk thickness, and overall vigor than either of its parents.

There are 3 irises I have that come to mind with pretty large blooms. 'Sweeter than Wine'(STW) a TB purple NOID and a TB light yellow NOID. The Purple NOID and 'STW' grow in the same flower bed. And the yellow NOID is very fragrant. It grows and blooms in Partial to Dappled shade.

The first pic. you will see the purple NOID and 'STW' in the background.

Joe, I was betting that one was William R. Setchell. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

i bloomed Well Endowed the year after i won it as a door prize in my Region 4 club meetings,
Joe is correct -- it indeed is a big ball of bright yellow gold. I couldn't hardly contain my excitement when it bloomed. That afternoon, a violent thunderstorm ripped the stalk off, along with the terminal bloom. I thought i'd start bawling. Thereafter rot consumed the small clump -- that was way back in 1982
Dr Nearpass was on hand to render his colorful take on the situation.
"That's what you get, Tim for trying to grow those California THINGS"

Oddly enough, another "California THING" Larry Gaulters "Countryman",

itself a very respectable lemon yellow, withstood the assault and lived long enough for me to spread the love in the way of its rapid increase, before it too, decayed into mush after a particularly hot and humid spell.

'Candy Apple Classic' is pretty darned close to your NOID.

'Gypsy Romance' is similar as well, but my pictures show more of a lighter flash around the beards than I see in your pictures.

The only Iris my mother grew was 'William A. Setchell'.. I have fond memories of the arrangements she made with them for the top of the piano. Although it's flowers are very large for an historic, most modern hybrids have larger flowers now.

I've grown both Lady Friend and Indiana Territory to great satisfaction in years past. IMHO Lady Friend was/is deserving of all the awards it received/will receive, both from the AIS and in the numberless blue ribbons and Queen of Shows awarded by local clubs, since its introduction

Betty Ford may be large, but Queen's Circle and Betty Ford are both descended from Christiana Baker. Of the two, Queen's Circle has been much more recognized and awarded. Possibly much more vigorous and floriferous. Check out first the awards and then scroll down the page to see the photos of Queen's Circle on her database page:
Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Queen's Circle') . Queen's Circle has been simply amazing in my garden.

Since I am so new to the whole iris thing, I'm looking for ideas - the treasurer of our club is looking for a LARGE iris flower...not the stem/stalk etc, just the individual bloom itself. She is such a great gal and I'd love to find something for her as a surprise. Any thoughts?
