But . . to answer your question, Anna, each stem will only flower once, so once you've had flowers on a set of leaves it will not bloom again. You have to grow a whole new pseudobulb to get another spike. Don't worry, a healthy plant like that in a nice greenhouse environment will grow like crazy.

Well.............I did NOT know that! Learn something every day. Will the bulb that had the bloom eventually croak? Or does it just sit there, being green and taking up space???

All those pseudobulbs/stems will eventually die, but for some of my plants, it takes 2-3 years to finally get so unsightly that they need to be cut off. Even though the pseudobulbs only bloom once (but can have multiple flowers off a single pseudobulb), as long as that/those leaves are green, they are still producing chlorophyll and thus nourishing the plant. So they are not just taking up space, Anna.

Wow, your Emerald Isle is beautiful Anna. Thinking that maybe I should try out one or two in the spring. Just a thought.

Hold that thought, Ivy. I hope you are doing well. I haven't seen you post in quite a while. Have you retired now?

Good evening Ken. I am doing well and having trouble concentrating on my work. Seem to stare at the calendar often. Retiring on Dec. 30, 2015. Since we spoke last, had went to Niagara Falls and was also preparing to go on a 7 day cruise to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Portland and Bar Harbor Maine. Took a few nice photos. Had fun but it way too short.

My friends are talking about booking a land and sea Alaskan trip in 2016, it is something to think. Cruise to Puerto Rico is on the horizon for 2017, have to be ready for the "Big Party" that I was invited to. All the ladies, bridesmaids, coworkers and girlfriends have two years to save up. The guys/husbands are staying home because they will definitely be out numbered. What fun.... .

So, that leads me to having a few plants in the apartment after 15 years. (Still missing my Torrie).

Will have time and energy for the indoor garden once again. It seems like everything that I wanted had been sold out. Watching in the spring and will be making my list.

They are there, Ivy. Just keep looking.

Have you considered "Jewell Orchids"? My Sarcoglottis are all starting to form inflo. They bloom in late winter and through the spring. They are called the "Green Dragon Orchids" because of their flowers. They are terrestrial and thus are grown more like the typical houseplant.

Merry Christmas. 2016 will surely be so much more fun for you. Hurray!

No, I never even thought about the "Jewell Orchids". Very pretty and different. Looks like I will have to wait until spring for delivery, going to be too cold for the plants to travel. They can be on my list.
Thank you.

Yup, we are here in the tundra zone. Bizarre..................Ground not frozen yet; in fact, I pulled 2 ginormous weeds yesterday on my way to open the barnyard gate for the SU that had equally ginormous taproots. Had to work the one a bit, but they pretty much pulled right out. Unheard of for 3rd week of December.

I keep waiting for the cold temperature to appear. This unusual weather has been a bit warm in NYC from the upper 50's to 60's but subject to change. Maybe I can order something after all.
Continues like this, won't have to move to Virginia.
