I love Delosperma cooperi. It usually winters over for me but I did lose one in my front garden over the past winter.

I have a pot that was partially broken so I stuck it on its side. It is in a spot with rather intense sun and I wanted a look of water so I chose graptopetalum. There are several different kind of graptos in there and I cant remember anymore what they are, but they are very drought tolerant and look great even through the winter.

Thank you Lin and Lynn. I will post a pic Lin. I hardly ever water or do anything to it. I wish all my potted plants were so easy to care for. I need to break off a few pieces and make more of that flowing effect coming down and fill in the top. It should be really nice and full by this fall.

Lynn, that is the sedum Mexicana in bloom below the pot. Is yours blooming?

Mine is growing well, but I think it needs more sun. It has set bloom buds on all the tips. How much sun does your get Audrey?
I love this photo of yours.

Most spots I have it in has full sun almost all day long. It can have less but does need at least 4 full hours to look compact. When it goes to bloom it gets tall and slender. Here is a pic up close of blooms. I will get a picture sometime in the next few days of it spilling out of a pot. Looks really pretty with the yellow draping down the copper colored pot.

Here is the sedum going to flower growing over stones with almost no dirt under them. I had three different pumps go out in that small pond and decided to not put one back in and the rocks that the water no longer flowed on looked barren and made me feel blah as it used to have so much life. So, I planted the sedum to spill over the rock and it is lush and calming again like when it had water. I love that plant Lovey dubby It is like a band aid in the garden just right where a little something is needed.

It looks beautiful. Do you prune it back after it blooms?

Yes, I do on some that are in close range of paths. I have some on hillsides and what not that I will not bother with. Like most sedums it looks awful after blooming but recovers quickly after pinching back. Either way it will return to tight form but does it much faster after a good hair cut. You can also do it now and not let it bloom and concentrate and growth and roots.

Hello all! I don't have spill pots, but it seems that the clay pre-formed spill pots are great for the manufacturers more so than for the consumer, with the moisture challenges that they pose! After all it takes just pennies to manufacture them! Perhaps a solution could be to seal the porous clay with a concrete or deck sealant on the inside of the preformed spill pots to aid in moisture retention (and save the consumer a great deal of money Hurray! ).

That would be a great experiment, wish I had thought of that before I tried to plant in the pots. Wonder if you could seal the outside instead? I'll have to give that some thought.

Oh, and Welcome! Dana!

Hi Dana. Welcome! @bloominholes2fill

You can use Thompson's water seal or tung oil to help water seal terracotta containers. This link has some pretty good info on waterproofing and sealing ceramics, etc.

http://www.bigceramicstore.com...

I have a couple large unglazed terracotta containers that I have had for a number of years. I use them for annuals.
The first time I poured some of the sealer in an old clean coffee can and used a paint brush to coat the pots, inside and out side. When I replant the containers, I wipe the exterior of the pot to make sure it is clean and apply another coat with a brush. Doing the outside helps protect the pot from pitting and UV rays.

Thanks for the welcome, Jean! Thank You!

Yeah, our remodelling contractor, told us to use Thompson's on the mortar in our glass block basement windows, so I just kinda had a "lightbulb" moment...
