The bearded irises that does not do well in warm temps are the shortest ones, MDB's. I was originally told by my local iris society that they will not grow here. I have around 40 and they grow and bloom but I keep them in pots and I do put them on the north side of the house during the winter so they can get cold for a bit and then in the summer I afford them some shade. I can grow about any of the others with the exception of the pacific coast natives. Louisiana's love the humid heat and my unguicularis is lush and bloomed two weeks ago.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

Sherry, how cold are you talking about? We're in the middle of a very VERY warm spell .. close to breaking records .. we'll be in the 50's and 60's at night until this coming Friday when we'll drop down back to normal in the 30's for the weekend.

Ann, it's been cool in California. It was 47 degrees at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, and getting close to freezing when I went to bed last night. I haven't checked the low from last night yet. The rest of the country is getting what we had the last two winters.. Warm and sunny.

Wild weather indeed! The contents of my greenhouse refuse to go dormant! It's a jungle in there.

That's what you get for being up so early! Hilarious!
It's supposed to be colder tonight. I probably should have covered the lemon, but then I'd have to go outside... Brrrrr

No, but in looking around I noticed that another one has a bud and this is one that got moved! The buds look way to immature at this point to be opening.

Drinking a La Croix, lol, but not spewing. It's warmed up to about 25 from an earlier 20 degrees. Just two days ago I was running around in a tee shirt feeding horses, and still sweating. Today I am back to a jacket over a sweat shirt. We are supposed to have a few cold days, and then warm up again. Such a crazy winter. It's a good day for soup, so I'm making vegetable soup. Smiling

P/S: I don't like it when it freezes in California, makes the wine and oranges cost too much! Rolling on the floor laughing

How tall are the leaves and how wide are they? Is that a ridge down the middle of the leaf? Could be a JA. I don't know if they rebloom.

Most of the smaller median irises need cold to really thrive. MDB's are the hardest of the medians to grow.
And they bloom early. They don't grow well in California. I've only seen three in bloom and they were all in the eastern part of the country.
