Moving a photo to the database? I associated a few photos in forums yesterday but then realized it's adding those photos to the database so I doubt I won't continue to do it. From experience, I learned that there are some members who do not want anyone moving their photos to the DB and they get very upset when you do so.

Jennifer, I wasn't aware of that feature and maybe others aren't either. I just know that I don't feel comfortable doing it anymore after I got harsh responses and hurt peoples feelings which I would never intend to do.

Unless you have read something previously to indicate a member doesn't want photographs added to the database, you wouldn't know. So sorry some folks were less than civil toward what was/is intended to be a fun activity. Group hug

If you see one you want to add, you could treemail the member and ask beforehand? Smiling

For the record, I am flattered when anyone thinks one of my photographs is good enough to add to the database and have no objections if anyone does so. Thumbs up

Don't second guess yourself. If a member doesn't want their photos associated with plants in the database, they can very easily opt out. You should proceed under the assumption that anybody who is allowing it, is okay with it.

I don't want to second guess or cross boundaries. I just had a couple of members tree mail me awhile ago (maybe last year) and in no uncertain terms they told me to NEVER submit proposals to move their photos over, that if they felt they were good enough and wanted them in the DB, they would do it themselves. I was informed (rightly) that I should have asked first and I felt so bad because I wasn't thinking and I really should have asked. I too am flattered if someone thinks my pictures are good enough for the database but I understand some folks are touchy about stuff. So ... I haven't moved photos from threads to the database since then. I think maybe lots of folks don't realize they can opt out of that process; I didn't realize it until Jennifer mentioned it earlier in this thread.

I had received similar Tree-mails in recent months and was a bit shocked by the extreme response of some members. Thumbs down Hopefully this contest will make it clear to one and all that photos added in posts are allowed to be proposed (by anyone) for the database and that the opt-out choice is there for the few who do not want to share their photos.

Any of my photos are up for grabs for anyone to add to the database, so feel free to search for mine. Smiling

Many of mine are daylilies and I've probably posted a photo of each to the database, so I would not get any Acorn , but anyone who associates my pictures with the database would get Acorn , so have at it Thumbs up

If they feel strongly about it they can always put in a request to have the picture deleted from the data base.

Consider, sometimes another member associates your picture with the wrong plant. Then you look like the dummy that doesn't know your own plant. If I have my photo correctly labeled and posted to the correct plant file page, I don't want someone mislabeling my photo and posting it to the wrong plant. This happened to me TWICE today.

I changed my preferences...
