It's December and we're holding a fun activity that will have you exploring the forums, finding photos that have been posted, and associating those photos with plants in the database. Open to find out more!

I am sorry that I associated pictures which people did not want associated.
When this contest is run---people need to go into their profile, and set it so others can not associate their pictures.
I tend to just look at the picture, and not the person's name.

There are a ton of pictures which should be in the data base.
What is scarce are pictures of seeds, seedlings and the whole plant.
People tend to take pictures of the blooms, and we need pictures of the rest too.

I agree, Caroline! I tried to associate photos of roots and whole plants rather than just blooms. Sorry you ran into people who didn't want their photos associated--I think this contest will be a wake up call to them about adjusting their settings to allow only themselves to link their photos to the database. Feel free to associate anything I put out there if you want' I'm perfectly okay with it!

I looked for good quality photos. I did make note of names so I could check to see if that photo was already in the database. Looking for names made that process easier. It seems I also associated a couple by people who subsequently said they did not want their photos associated. I was enjoying the contest up to that point. Not so much after that. So I also hope people check their settings. But over all I thought this was a great idea and fun to do.

I agree that we need more photos showing more than blooms or fruits.

I'm sorry, Caroline and Claudia, that you ran into complaints, and I hope you will continue to propose the addition of other people's photos to the database even after the contest is over. Liz' response is the norm. Most people appreciate having their photos singled out for addition to the database. This contest should make people aware that the process has always been encouraged and that there is an option to stay out of the process for any reasons of their own.

Ditto, Claudia. At first I got over ambitious and thought that since the photos I was submitting did not already have the formatting of the database image name, that the photo had not been submitted before, but found out that was not the case. I guess the same picture was posted more than once in different threads or something. So I opened two windows on my computer and checked every image after that to make sure they were not in the database already and was more discriminatory about what photos I submitted.

I still think the contest is a great idea. I think that since the negative feedback has been minimal, most people are okay with having their pictures associated with the db by someone other than themselves.

Since any and all pictures posted on this website can be protected by copyright or profile settings, and the admins get final say in whether a picture is added to the database or not, I have waffled back and forth about being sorry. Especially since I know now that I have associated pictures of some who have sent that negative feedback. I certainly never intended to cause hard feelings just for playing a game. I cherish the friendships I have with everyone here and hope we can all still be friends.

A final thought: How blessed I am if something like this is all I have to worry about with all that is going on in the world today. I pray for peace every day. Group hug

I don't like this either, and I just adjusted my preferences accordingly. I had the right label with my photo, someone changed it, and now I am charged with repairing the damage but cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. I'm done with this feature.

And another of my photos appeared mislabeled- pointed out by Danita in another thread- and I can even find my original entry. My very short experience with this is not a positive one. A few days before Christmas I don't have time for this. Moderators, fix the problem as you see fit. I can't figure it out, can't find the pics... I'm done with it.
