As long as it doesn't turn into a popularity contest of how many thumbs up someone gets, I like it. Just sayin'. Might make some of us feel like we have nothing to bring to the party, so to speak. Or it might lose some of its significance by just becoming a thing to do ... especially if everyone can see who did what. Again, just another opinion. Big Grin

I agree

I checked. It does show when you check someones profile. How many thumbs up given, how many received.

Hmmmmm. Not sure how I feel about that. Shrug!

TMI for some people. Given human nature, it does matter sometimes.

I am using the thumbs up to help me find information I would normally loose in a thread, like when to fertilize my roses or water the new plant etc...
kinda like an on sight bookmark

We may or may not continue to show the numbers.

Our intent with this feature will be to help people find "the best". It will become just another way to browse the site. Look for the top tips, or the top articles, or the top tutorials, or what-have-you.

There's certainly potential for abuse and feeling hurt and all of that clique stuff, but let's endeavour here at the beginning to give thumbs up for our favorite/most helpful/ most enjoyable items, and see where it takes us Smiling

I didn't intend to sound negative or snarky. Just another POV. It's set up so we can choose to use it or not, I've been exposed to that "cliquey" business elsewhere and know what a turn-off it can be for people. I don't use the feature like Cinda does and probably won't search through all the multitude of threads in some Forums to find it, but if it helps some and helps newcomers, that's a positive point for it. But definitely not wild about the names being attached.
I tip my hat to you. Group hug

Question? How do the thumbs up given for important info and such work. I went to my profile and tried to click on received or given and went no where. If you do a thumbs up for something you want to remember, who do you get to it?

So far that's not available, but the system is keeping track of everything and soon I will be able to offer you a place to view all the thumbs you've given.

A great improvement, Dave. Time will tell. Just sayin'. If the "thumbs up" that are left are for serious posts and not just because someone said something cute or funny, that's one thing. I want this website to be a huge success. You've done it once already and I happen to think that lightning can strike twice. I tip my hat to you.

Oh how cool! This is going to be very helpful Dave. Now, I have a question.... are you planning on putting in a feature where we can edit our list of thumbs ups? Delete ones we no longer want? I think this is what you were talking about when you said you were going to have a feature like tags or bookmarks right?
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Yes, I like Ann's editing idea now that we have some objective criteria. I probably should delete the ones I subjectively awarded to posts only because they included pretty pictures and, in at least one or two cases, in appreciation for polite replies to rude comments.

If you want to delete a thumb, just go to the entry and click the thumbs icon again.

In other words, If it's green, then that means you haven't thumbs'ed up it yet. If it's black/grey, then you already did and you should click again to cancel the thumb.

Oh Dave you're so smart. I never even thought of that. I do know it works that way for I tried it out when I first saw the thumb's up sign. It just never occurerred to me. Big Grin Whistling
