I love Philodendron for shady areas. This plant is an indicator-plant. If it does not grow because of the lighting conditions no other plant will grow on this place. Philodendron is a wonderful architectural plant with its big green leafs. And it is a thankful grower which forgives some care-mistakes.

Philodendron is the optimal beginner-plant. Water them not too much, let the supreme soil-layer dry before you water them again. Take room-temperatured rainwater for healthy plants. They don´t like temperatures below 15°C, they love higher air humidity. Tolerate cutting from spring to summer without any difficulties. Do not cut the air roots - give them a moist grow-help (best are cocos- or moss-sticks), so that the air roots can find a hold on it.

Split-Leaf Philodendron (Monstera deliciosa)
