Hahahahahaha. No! And they do not work. My deer look IN them to see if they have my blooms stuck between their teeth!

My yard is the same, Rosie. I had no idea about them. We bought the place, and I quickly planted nearly $1000 worth of plants. One week later there was nothing left. The deer ate them down to the ground, and the javelinas ate the roots and bulbs. I have a greenhouse now, and need to make some fences, but right now it's hopeless to try to have a pretty yard.

I agree about the fencing. It's why we haven't done it yet. We do have fencing around all of the property and one gate we have to get out and open. I'm trying to make the case that we need a solar automatic gate. The deer just hop the fence like it's not even there.

how tall is your fence Karen?
I am thinking about 6ft eventually which I know will not keep them all out, but I would think it would help alot. The thing is, the deer here are not desperate, there is a creek nearby and the neighbors yards are all unfenced and available....

The fence is 6 ft. That doesn't stop them at all. We also have a huge pond, creek and un-fenced land all around us. They just have a prescribed route they go every day. It's always just before dawn when they come by. Until we got the fencing, the free ranging cows and horses also came by. At least they are kept out now.

I got some deer repellent things I'm going to try, but I have a feeling it's a lost cause.

They know the good stuff is locked up!

They can jump 8 feet or more without a running start. From a still position.

You know...the truth is...just when I get my mind around the deer... The underground moles and or voles wreck havoc!

Karen have you tried the wireless deer fence? I just ordered some and hoping they at least help. I hear it does take a while to train them away from an area.

@Frillylily No, I have the link, and will probably try it. In the end I'll probably try everything there is!

Rosie, we also have the moles, voles and gophers digging everywhere. My husband gassed out the ones that bothered us the most. He directed the car exhaust down their holes. I was afraid to use poisons because we had the dog and I don't want to hurt other wildlife.

I have read that if you have mole damage in an area, is just the one because very territorial..
If it is what we have this spring...BUSY little fella. There are guides moles vs vole..the dirt at the entrance vs no dirt..etc. hard to keep up. Some at the top..others travel deeper..

We're just assuming it was killed. This was in a new area for them, our graveled driveway. They had about 5 holes with dirt around them and kept making more. After the gassing, no more holes were dug, and we smoothed out the soil and gravel and fixed it all and nothing has been disturbed since then. There are other areas of our land where they are going wild with holes everywhere. Sad
