I saw a beautiful geranium yesterday. Here is the label:

Thumb of 2016-02-09/plantmanager/0caba9

When I started looking in the database for where to place it, I noticed that none of the 'Elegance' geraniums have the trademark. There is no Elegance Imperial listed. I'm unsure how to proceed.

Thanks, Lin. Yes, it's gorgeous!

Ok, this is confusing. I was searching 'regal geranium' and it wasn't there, but a lot of the other Elegance geraniums were there. Should some or all of these be moved to one or the other?

Karen, Regal Geranium is a common name. It isn't listed among the common names of all of the pelargoniums of the Elegance series. That's why you had trouble finding Elegance Imperial. As you can see from the link Lin posted, she searched for "Pelargonium Elegance" and found all of them. A search for "Geranium Elegance" also would have let you find all the plants of that series. It's best to confine your search terms to the essentials. Otherwise, you end up with a lot of results having little or no connection to the plant you want to find. A search by common name usually will be less productive than a search that includes all or part of the cultivar name.

Karen, it can be confusing sometimes when searching the database and depends on how we search. I've gotten so that I only search by genus name (Pelargonium) instead of the common name (Geranium). Of course, that's if I know the exact genus name ... when I only know the common name of a plant, I type that in and try to decipher from those listed, which one I want. Green Grin!

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along and be able to explain better but this is the way I understand it:

Searching for Geranium Regal you will only get those with "Geranium" in the name
http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Searching for Pelargonium Regal, you will only get all those with "Regal" in their name
http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Searching for Pelargonium Elegance, you will only get those with Elegance in the name:
http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Searching for Pelargonium you will get all Pelargonium species and hybrids:

Searching for Geranium, you will get all Gernaium species and hybrids:
