Thanks Becky! This was my first time growing portulaca from seed. I actually had hundreds of little seedlings but they thinned themselves out. They're in a heavy planter in pure sand.
I LIKE seeds you can just throw down and water...unless it's unwelcome weeds that come up instead

I bought the Bougainvillea in spring of 2014 and there was a skinny weedy looking plant in the container. I guessed that it was Purslane and sure enough, it grew and bloomed. It stayed in the container and came inside for the winter. It has really made a thick mat and has been blooming for a couple of weeks now. Last summer some hail broke some off and I stuck the pieces in water where they promptly began growing roots, so there's another container which has started blooming. It's not nearly as thick as this one in the Bougainvillea container, though.
