Guess I'll date myself too as I loved watching Red Skelton as a child too. Here's the info about WISPY RAYS Jan.
Wispy Rays (Joiner, 1998)
height 36", bloom 7.5", season M, Rebloom, Evergreen, Tetraploid, 18 buds, 3 branches, Pompeian red with ginger watermark and yellow green throat. (sdlg × Ruby Spider)
It's an evergreen, but seems to do pretty well here. Hard for me to judge it's performance as it's growing under a sweet gum tree which is hard on all the daylilies--lots of tree roots. Hasn't multiplied much, but does bloom and I love the blooms! So many of my daylilies are forced to compete with tree roots, vinca and other perennials but I can't seem to cut back on the number enough to give them all choice spots. And I really do enjoy the shade from the trees in our hot summers....
