'Katsuragawa Beni' was discovered in the mountains of Japan by Mr. Toshiro Shimizu. Red petioles that go up into the leaf veins. Dark green leaves are quite elongated and have great substance on a small compact clump. I've had it since spring 2006 and I must admit I go hot and cold about this one. It seems to like growing in a pot and when in a pot, I can see the red petioles. The description I had said shiny green leaves, but mine have never been shiny. But I've never gotten rid of this one - I divide it and then keep a division. I will need to give it a larger pot this spring or find a new garden location for it.
