I ended up buying 75 yellow flag iris seeds thinking they were my native plant and I could run around sprinkling seeds to my hearts delight.

However, they are not, my native is the blue flag iris. I these are invasive in my area. I wouldn't be too worried about the invasive part except that I live in a wetland and where I wanted to plant them ( and have them fill in) would be impossible for me to keep them in that one spot. I'd grow them in sunken pots if it wasn't for the seed pods. I can't return them, it costs more than its worth anyway and this seller has nothing else I need (for exchange). What shall I do with them? Besides be embarrassed and mad at myself >.<

Iris pseudacorus spreads like mad even in ordinary garden conditions, so I definitely wouldn't plant them if I lived in a wetland.

I think that I'd see if the seller would be willing to exchange them for something else less invasive and then use that for trading. We have a trading forum here, http://garden.org/forums/view/...

I'm sorry! I get so frustrated with myself when I do things like that, too. I'm sure that every gardener has done something similar at least once (but more likely many times!)

Although it's frustrating, I would just chalk this up to a bad purchase and would just dispose of the seeds. We've all made mistakes, and just have to look at it as a learning experience. So sorry this happened to you--I know how disappointing it is.

I agree with Linda. I think I'd just ditch them.

I contacted the seller who agreed to an exchange but I have to ship them back. I'll either do that or secure and dispose of them.

I'm glad I'm not the first person to jump the gun and order something I shouldn't have. I certainly don't want to be known as the cattail killer , with this trail of flowers leading right back to my house lol Such a shame because it's such a gorgeous flower too :(

Oh dear, I didn't realize that you already had them. Shipping them back would probably cost as much as the seeds.
What other seeds did the seller have?

Other than exchanging or trashing, the only other thing that I could think to do with them is to use them as part of some sort of craft or artwork using other natural materials like acorn caps, other seeds, seeds pods, etc.

The seeds also float which is amusing to see, as long as they are contained in a bowl on your kitchen counter, of course!

Evidently they have sterile hybrids that are supposed to mind their manners. Neat info ^^
