I've known for a long time that the 3 youngest kitties are allergic to something. I assumed it was flea allergies, but I'm becoming convinced it's something else...poison ivy. I know that cats normally don't have reactions to poison ivy, but they're free of fleas and still there's itching, and one is starting to chew on her paws, maybe the second one is also. I can't think of anything else it could be. So I'm starting to get as much of the P.I. pulled up as I can. I worked on it some last year, but with all the rain, it's really taking off. Just out on the property, of course. The fenced-in yard is P.I.-free and has been a long time. What a job! I'm also convinced that the cats transfer the oils to me when I pet them or touch them. I had a reaction a while ago and knew I didn't go anywhere near P.I., and it's happened before.

Poison ivy and poison oak are both bad in my book. Be careful pulling it! I've seen articles that warn against burning it. That's one weed I would bag for sure.

If the oil is still on their fur, you may want to give them a bath. PI won't spread once the oil is gone.

Well, that's why I'm working on pulling up as many of the plants as I can right now. Maybe a bath for them once I get enough of it pulled up, otherwise they'd just go get more oil on them. BTW, cats hate baths...it's the equivalent of me trying to kill them, as far as how they react to it. But I'm definitely having a shower after every single one of my P.I.-pulling up efforts, even though I wear long gloves for this. Can't be too careful. And what I remove will go straight into the garbage bag! Geez...it's a good thing those kitties are so cute and lovable!

Ive seen more PI in the forest than usual this year. I pull it up when i see it but im sure the roots go deep. Im not sensitive to it. But i avoid exposure so that I don't become sensitive.
