Anyone on here familiar with lilac shrubs? I put 3 different ones in last year. One has started to green and bloom, the other two still look dead. I scratched the bark at the end of a stem, still scratched easy and was green underneath. The two not doing anything yet are "beauty of Moscow" and i believe "scent and sensation"

Dave - I have only one - 'Miss Kim'. Grows well (if I ever get the hang of properly pruning a lilac) but not what I wanted in the scent department. We were just talking about lilacs over in the "Midwest Weather and ...". You could pop over there and check it out.

Ten years ago I planted a half dozen Lilacs.
Two were tree Lilacs and the other bush type. One was Beauty of Moscow

Depending on how large yours were, mine were very small to really just twig, It takes years for them to develop -- usually.. The twig did not make it.

Sadly my BoM seems to have a slow moving disease and I am going to rip it out.

Do not know but it is slowly dying one branch at a time.

I have kim, an old fashioned, and the bloomerang. I am zone 5a, mine have all green two have bloomed, one is too young, two were wintered over in pots sunk in the ground. Personally I would just leave the other two and see what happens, if they are not brittle and completely dead I would wait, why not.

I know this is a very late post, but I grow several kinds of lilacs:
--- 4 cultivars of Syringa vulgaris
--- S. wolfii
--- S. reticulata
--- S. pinnatifolia (not S. laciniata)
--- S. x hyacintha
--- S. x persica

Verticillium wilt is native here (and in my soil). Beauty of Moscow is the only lilac that is affected.
