Is there a critter in your yard/garden space that you consider a friend?? You know the one.....you always tell it "Hi" and "How ya doin' today?" "Be careful now, the dog/cat is out" "Need a drink?" as you water and send a gentle mist in it's direction. Well....meet Buddy, an adult five lined skink AKA blue tailed skink. Buddy is my friend. He/she loves to survey the world from the top of the ladder that lives on the patio in case I need it. Buddy also likes to greet me at the front door...actually anywhere near or on the side of the house....managed to get IN the screen room not too long ago Blinking looked right purt streatched out on one of the aluminum rails, but oh my...put me in panic mode afraid the dogs would get him/her. Buddy was not happy with my efforts to get him/her back outside, but I had no choice....after all, Buddy is my FRIEND Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Who's yours??

Went through my saved picture albums and found this one from a few years ago. Not sure if it is the same Buddy or a different one, but he/she is stretched across 5 bricks which is a tad over 13 inches Blinking

Adorable! I wish we had some lizards. All of our backyard buddies are feathered and furred. We have squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, opossums, grackles, starlings (a.k.a flying clowns), crows, blue jays, cardinals, the sparrow mafia, the pigeon gang...and groundhogs.

In a place famous for groundhogs, you'd be surprised how many people in my town hate them. They regard them as nuisances and even shoot them. We welcome them, and have had a growing family for years. Mama Red has raised her babies beside our back porch for several generations. My mom can go out and feed the animals in the morning, and Red will stand right beside her and watch. Red will even knock on the back door if we don't get breakfast fast enough. They are still wild animals, so we don't touch them, but they are friends and neighbors.

Been waiting impatiently for them to come out of hibernation this spring. Finally saw some activity at one of the burrow entrances today! Some one was diggint it out. Can't wait to see one of those cute little faces.

Those groundhogs are adorable, just saying. They look like fat otters.
