I hate it when scapes lean. Sometimes it is just in a bad spot like BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS leaned for me so I moved it into another spot (this was years ago) and it never leaned again.

I used to enjoy growing Jersey Spider - but it was always on the ground. Thumbs down

Yes, I just gave up on my JERSEY SPIDER because the scapes were just too thin and they always ended up going horizontal. NORTH WIND DANCER does much better than that. And it seems to me that my dip spiders are the ones that are thin and willowy and sometimes need staking, whereas my tets have much sturdier stalks. Has anyone else noticed anything like that?

My vote is for ADORABLE TIGER because of its stunning distinctive bloom. And because Rasmussen with all his gorgeous introductions deserves more recognition.

HOLLY DANCER / Warrell comes in 2nd

And several others are favorites here. Lordy, I love CREATURE OF THE NIGHT especially where I have placed it in the garden next to tall Becky Shasta with white tall phlox in the background. The white stripe against the dark bloom with the white companions is stunning. It comes in 2nd too!

NORTHWIND DANCER is a beauty but it always leans here.

We had a very wet spring this year and scapes grew faster than normal. As a result of that I had a lot of dip spiders scapes leaning this year, even on plants that normally don't lean. I was very disappointed in that. Location and weather probably does play a part but some just normally lean I guess.

Looks like Northwind Dancer won the Stout!

I looked back over the past winners, and there was a Ned Roberts that won recently, but other than that, very few northern or spidery plants for a long time. It is encouraging to me to see not only a spidery but a northern plant win.

Betty, I do believe tets are sturdier and less likely to lean, but I still like dip spiders better because when the wind blows that flit about in the air like they are dancing whereas tets are too sturdy to do that, at least the ones I have don't do that. Maybe there are some out there that do.

Really looking forward to seeing what comes up in my yard next Spring. Bought more than 100 different daylilies this year, many spiders and UFOs. Will be on the hunt for plant rings over the Winter in case any of mine are 'leaners,' too. Smiling Thank you for the information.
