It's highly ornamental, bees love it, the fruit is edible and delicious, mature fruits have many household uses, and the plant is easy to grow. What's not to love?

If you want straight luffas, grow them so that they hang down from the climbing structure. They will all be perfectly straight then because the fruits hang straight down.
