By Boopaints

Living in a dry heat with high temperatures between 105 and 110 during the summer, purslane laughs in your face and thrives here in Phoenix, Arizona. Add some incredible, edible ornamental purslane to your garden this summer! A salsa with purslane recipe is included in the article.

No, they won't live in winter. You'll need to bring them indoors and keep them in the sunniest place. Vicki lives in NC so lets ask her: @vic, what have you done for yours?

No, they will not survive and in my case, don't even reseed.

Now this part, I'm going back to Becky @Boopaints - dig it up before first frost and keep in a sunny window and water sparingly. I've only tried it once but I didn't do well with it so I just buy new plants each year. Becky has had tremendous success in overwintering hers - I think Whistling Crossing Fingers! Green Grin!

Yes, @vic, I have had success BUT I would just as soon buy new ones too. I worried over the one purslane like a mother hen all winter. It even bloomed once (teeny blooms though) and once I put it outdoors, it took off in the ground. I moved before I found out what happened the next summer.

I live in Georgia and have grown these wonderful flowers for several years! Before the 1st frost I snip off branches and put them in water. They root easily and then I pot them. When planted they do as well as store bought!

I also live in Ga and as Linda does I cut good healthy stems throughout summer and put them in a red solo cup and place them in my kitchen garden window. Within days they have lots of roots and then plant them in small pots, by summer I have many healthy plants to put in baskets. Haven't bought in years unless I see a new color that I want. I do same with portulaca and even mix them sometimes!

I actually managed to keep one here in Florida in between a creepy crawler they blended in and kept each other warm in as low as 45• weather early spring grew like crazy beautiful taking over the pot.And here she is now 2 years later. I propagated it because she grew so full last Summer . Not looking to full for its dormant now beginning of cold weather. I will update early spring to show how well she did this winter. Wish me luck! : Smiling
