Ed - I can not see another bidders maximum bid. So I will bid 1 increment up on an auction from what the current bidder is bidding or I will add my max bid and sometimes that auction jumps right up but my max is over-bid by the other bidder's max bid range. If it goes over my max, I won't bid again on that auction. I stick to my limit. That is my reason.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

That's what I do also. I bid, if I am beat out I'll bid again in probably too small increments might bid 3 or 4 times if I really want it but if I am still out bid by proxy or they rebid & it gets to my breaking point I am done. I am sorry I bid it up(not really, I am sorry I didn't get high bid Whistling ) but I am not going to keep going cause I don't want to pay that much for whatever plant I was bidding on. I figure if the person has a higher bid they are expecting that it might go that high and they are willing to pay it. So they win and I can try for something else another day. nodding

gardenglory said:just trivia, got my seeds today from canada and so the shiping charge was 10.00. Thing is, they just got here and the postage was 1.40 as they were mailed in NY. Why does this bother me a bit. Is it because I had already spent alot on the seeds. Well who knows but I know another seller from canada refunded shipping when he mailed from detroit. Its such a small amount of money this is a silly snit, but its not about the money. Ok....moving on.

I know who that seller is. I had the same thoughts. Especially as I was also paying in USD and not CAD. I always figured we should pay CAD to Canadians so if they say on their auction "$4 for Canadians and $10 for Americans" then I should be paying $10CAD (currently $8USD), not $10USD. Still, that seller does seem to have the most amazing crosses. She is a cut above everyone else selling when it comes to 'en vogue' daylily seeds.

I just realized that an LA seller (who has an account here but isn't a contributor) never gave me feedback for all my 35 purchases last year. The purchases were spread out over months (December 2019 through late April), but I always paid promptly.

I left her positive feedback, as it seemed I needed to post it when I BOUGHT vs when I received the plants. The shipment was delayed, so the plants got potted up in very late June. At least 5 didn't survive.

I learned that one cannot undo positive feedback, which I guess I'm ok with. I'm not ok with getting feedback on one auction when I won 35.

Suggestions? Should I contact her, or just deal with my puny score of 36?

I got seeds from a lady in Canada, and got the seeds on a Monday. On Thursday I got an E-mail of how sorry she was that she had
forgotten to mail my seeds! By the time I got back with her, she had already sent the second batch of seeds- which I was happy to
get I might add! I wanted to at least send her the postage, so I bought another packet of seeds and added the postage along with
that order. All in all I spent $30 in postage for 6 or 8 packets of seeds in the three shipments. I didn't mind so much because they
were from crosses that I really wanted.

I never even consider the feedback thing on either the LA or on E-bay. It is too complicated! I just hit the pay it now button most
of the time and move on to the next one.... When I get a positive feedback notice, it's just another E-mail I have to delete! Sighing!

whoops, I never go back and give feedback *Blush* Cant say Ive ever read mine either Blinking
Most people have such high transaction numbers I figure they dont care if they get feedback or not. I think Ill go at some point and fix that at least for this year. Just tidy things up.

I've also been waiting a few days for an invoice...or even just a total...for *wins from a seller who only takes checks. He even makes a point of saying he'll void wins if he doesn't get a check in a certain amount of time!

I just don't want to write a check and have it be for the wrong amount. Maybe I'll just send what I assume is the correct total. Shrug!

I also bought seeds from a Lady in Canada. She had some that were really exciting to me. My last order was slow in coming so I contacted her and the order that came duplicated the next to the last order. Then the last order was slow in coming but I'm excited to have them and only 3 of 20 seeds haven't germinated. I'm OK with this.

Sounds interesting. Which website are you using to bid on wine? You made me thirsty.

@plasko20 A seller of daylilies and wine would indeed be a great find!

(I meant wins.) 😂

So I tried to leave feedback, fred was first up. I wrote a few words but noticed I couldnt find bulk feedback. It said I had to push to leave feedback, I pushed nothing, and bing bang boom it post the start of my feedback. Grumbling Well nobody reads that stuff anyway. Not like fred a new seller.

Turns out it got the great part so it could be worse. Just nothing about the plant.

Well, I did notice that someone last year on the LA was giving away home-made scented soap as a bonus gift with wins.
I would prefer wine, however. Or honey. Better than a bonus fan, I think. And really makes the seller stand out from the crowd.

I don't know if you've heard of Rita Bees Garden and Apiary in GA. She sells daylilies and honey (and other bee products). Affordable, high-quality plants.

@MrKGDickie
The name does ring a bell from somewhere. I must have been on her site, I reckon.
On a side note, I noticed your "signature line" says you also like hibiscus. I was wondering if you can help me with a little thing. I have no trouble germinating hibiscus seeds (particularly Holy Grail Hibiscus) using wet paper towel and a zip-lock baggie, but then after transplant to potted soil they never seem to progress much further. I have one seedling left (rest died off), still with cotyledons after 2 months, and less than an inch tall. Like it is frozen in time. It just sits there, not dying but not living either. This also happened last year. In 2020, out of 10 seedlings I managed to get one to progress onwards (and it did reward me with flowers in late summer, albeit slightly smaller than the parent). My suspicion is that my seedlings need real sunlight to progress (rather than through a window). I even have UVA/B indoor grow lights (well, they are supposed to be for lizards to bask in but most seedlings also seem to like them), that did nothing to the seedling. I am out of ideas on how to push hibiscus germinated-seedlings onwards. What could I be doing wrong?

I wish I knew, but I don't germinate seeds if any kind. I have zero skill on that front.

My knee-jerk reaction is that they're waiting for real sunlight or even just water temperatures.

Have you tried just direct-sowing them outside...in pots or in the ground?

I bet someone on the Hibiscus forum could shed some light. Try this thread, as it's all about hardy hibiscus. https://garden.org/thread/go/1...

Wow !! This was started by Jan in 2011. Spoke to her over the summer. She said to give everyone her regards. She has been busy with life and family. When I think of her, @Legalily Ginny comes to mind. Great personality and all all-around great human being. It's time to update this thread. So much has happened since the last post on the LA Nancy in DG. I will update what I know in the near future.
