It does take thought. Just like selection & placement of plants & sometimes you just can't fit certain things in.

Unfortunately the bee box was over-full with honey, and bees. This horse, a big bay Throughbred, went charging in the direction of her home and knocked the boxes over, causing a swarm.

Wrong time to be tall and dark.

But please, don't think it was anything bad about the bees. It had a lot more to do with human error than anything else. My friend should have emptied the box sooner (she had actually started the weekend before and got delayed) the owner of the horse should have had better control of the horse and probably shouldn't have had such a 'hot' horse in the first place. Live and learn.

No, the bees reacted. It was just a horrible accident.

Just walking around the garden today, as falling leaves take over everything, found this bee on the aeonium arboreum..I guess he thought the leaves where flowers Smiling

Correction:
My apologies, apparently this bee look-a-like is not a bee after all, but is called Eristalis tenax - a dronefly. Thanks to Myriam and Janet at Buglife cubits for the ID!

I saw a big decline in honey bees for a few years, but in the last 2 or 3 years, I have a lot. I never use any pesticides either.

Sheryl, do you grow the flowers that they love? Some of my biggest attractors are sedum, shown above, and butterfly weed

LOL - they attract you too? Of course!!! Rolling on the floor laughing

I have a lot of carpenter bees and other pollinators, but I saw maybe 2 or 3 honey bees this last summer. I don't know if someone sprayed for them or what the deal is, really. I'm in such a rural area it seems impossible for them to be completely wiped out.

I have a lot of carpenter bees as well. Actually, the first year I was here I didn't see many honey bees ... but, of course, I was just beginning to plant. This year, there were quite a few here. Seems like being in a rural area, there would be things blooming for them. Hmmmm....
I garden for the pollinators.

Love the photos everyone.

Sheryl if you see a few then they aren't completely wiped out may just not be enough in the area for you to see many. They will come eventually I'm still being told they are increasing in areas that didn't have many a year or two ago.
