Sempervivum 101

By valleylynn
November 27, 2016

Sempervivums are plants that originate on the European continent. Found at high altitudes known as alpine zones, they thrive in this harsh and rugged terrain. Sempervivums are becoming increasingly popular in the United States as gardeners fall in love with the textures and colors of these amazing little plants.

So glad that this article has been rerun. There is a lot of good information here and I really appreciate the last pictures with the captions. The pictures are beautiful!

I had hens and chicks many moons ago and did not think too highly of them then. They were just an old-fashioned plant that I thought never bloomed. But then, I wasn't into any kind of plant back then.

Now I love all kinds of plants and a renewed interested in semps, thanks to winning some semps in the not-a-raffle-raffle from goldfinch4, I now have a nice start of semps again.

Next year, I want to use some of the semps I received to make a fairy garden in a pot that has just been sitting around waiting for the right use.

Hi Virginia,
Thank you for the kind words. And as a sempervivum lover I want to welcome you back to the world of semps.
How are your semps doing? I would love to see photos of them. I look forward to seeing photos of the fairy garden you will be creating.

The semps are doing well, although I don't have any photos yet. Would love to do a broken pot fairie garden like SarasotaPatty did in this gardening idea.

Thank you for the link, somehow I missed that article. Loved the fairy garden containers. Especially the terracotta one at the end of the article.
