I've just been picking blooms for the show. Had to send someone in to buy 'beer' (cider!) to drink for the green bottles - I couldn't find my little green bottles!

I just assumed the show administration kept the bottles from year to year. That's what we do with ours. Maybe it's different because you do all kinds of flowers, not just lilies...
Thumb of 2017-01-13/Leftwood/a2487e

So this prompts another question: do you prep your lilies at home or at the show?
--- We bring them to a staging area in whatever container we happen to have. Then, at the show in this adjoining room, we prepare them for show and judging in the vials. It is at this time that we do the final cut of the stem, set the stalk straight, remove leaves and generally pretty them up.

I like the bottles used in the Lily-show in your area, Rick. They do not distract from the main object to be appreciated/judged

Oh that was Clivia nobilis in Anthony's arrangement pic (https://garden.org/pics/2017-0...) that started this thread. I had seen the Clivia miniata, but didn't know that one. Years ago, I had gotten some seed of a Vireya section rhododendron from the NARGS seed exchange (it was left over at the end), but I wasn't successful with it. Sad

What did the entrant use for the water pouring out of the jug in the succulent pics?

Really nice pics, Della and Anthony!

Yes, I've started growing Clivia from seed - another addiction! I admit I have some exciting rhododendron seed too, sitting here on my desk. I must have sowing paralysis though. I once germinated some deciduous azalea seed when I was a kid, but now I don't know if I'll succeed with this special stuff and I'm too scared to sow it! Haven't a clue what I'm doing! (Except that it apparently involves sphagnum). Hilarious! Sighing! Vireyas are sooo beautiful. Try again!

The water was made of glass 'pebbles', very well done.

Well, time for more pics of the champ. Doug and Chris let me take the stem home after the show - how lucky am I!! Lovey dubby
