I have been working with this trait for a while now and this new seedling from this past year is one of my favourites. This one shows a white flare on a dark background.
Is anyone out there working on this trait as well?

Yes, it does pop up once in a while just like a other interesting markings all of which I like to "play" with i.e. improve on - take it as far as I can go. That's what hybridizing is all about I guess.

The one in the first picture is striking. I don't believe I've ever seen one that striking! Beautiful, too. Bold and dainty at the same time. How's the overall plant structure?

that white flare, on the dark background just stands out. Then add the dark plum color into red. Can't wait to see this one in another season or two! If it can reach to 3 feet in height, wrap them up and take my money.

I think I've commented on this one of yours already on the Lilies group, Jim, but once again excellent work. I look forward to seeing where you take it.

When you asked, Joshua, I went back and looked if I had crossed that one of mine with anything. I do remember that what I would have wanted to cross it with was already past. But yes, there were things I splashed its pollen on, just because they were available at the time. These seedlings of mine:

This weird pollenless one that I keep around only because I hope it has some interesting genetics. Shirley x L. michiganense(not). And that pic was on a good day! One of the first protected pollenations I ever did (but didn't work), when I had no idea what lily would fertilize what. It's very robust, but half the time buds don't even fully develop.

This one shows that trait. I believe it's Gales favorite.

I'm reminded of'Striptease' by Fred Fellner

Ok fellas now that I see that you all have the beginings of this trait in some of your lilies let's see what you can do with them.
I have never seen that lily 'Strip Tease' by Fred Fellner. I am sure the first seedling here probably goes back to Fred's stuff somewhere along the line as I usually visit Fred once a summer and collect pollen and the occasional seedling as well to enhance what ever I am working on at the time.
Since this seedlings just bloomed for the first time this season and I carefully moved it to a select bed we will have to see what kind of stem it gets. I am expecting though that it will be at least three feet as one of its parents was a good four feet and the other at least 3 feet - time will tell.
Rick, I would suggest that you find a particular trait and just go for it. Take it as far as you can.

These seedlings believe it or not have come out of my red nectary flare breeding. The first one really got me excited because of the many colours combined in the flower and also the spotting pattern. I am very curious as to what a stem will look like and also what this flower form will settle down to. I am not sure at this point if it is an upfacing or outfacing flower.

Jim,the info on striptease is what if given up from Valley K lilies. Where would you suggest going to with mine? Crossing it with gayles favorite to see what comes of if? Then Maybe back cross to whichever parent has the better "flares" or both?

Just to clarify, nectary is the colour on/between the ridges. So what would we call the strip on garden party?

Yes, I would suggest crossing the two of them both ways to obtain obtain at least 20 or more of each cross to see what you get in the first generation. This should give you a good idea of what you might expect if you continue on. You neve know what is lurking in the background of Gales Favourite.
Here is something like you might get something like these two seedlings - of mine. I would be very interested to see if you get any with the white extension (flare) from the nectary furrows. However, I have to say you may get something that is totally different and beautiful. You will only know if you give it a try.
