I had an area of my backyard that was pretty much useless for anything, it's on the southside 5 ft wide by 24 ft long house on one side rpivacy fence on the other, So I built a greenhouse.

Now that is making good use of wasted space and it looks like it is full already. Very good idea!
Will you leave it up year around? If so, did you use a UV rated plastic?

Yes it will stay up all year and the plastic is from home depot so probably not, I might replace it with new next summer.

Looks like great use for that space.
Will your plants stay there all winter?
Will you use it for starting seeds in the spring?

Great idea, Joe! We need a temporary structure, too. I tip my hat to you.

I also was wondering if the bricks help to keep it warm , what side of the house is the greenhouse on?

i did pretty much the same thing when i lived in So Calif but with corrugated panels, you are so correct it is pretty much a long wasted space.
i used the polycarbonate but the first winter storm tore them up, so i went to the fiberglass which is a little more expensive but much stronger.
mine was on the south side and got pretty warm so summer was with the door open. i used it mostly for seedlings and a potting shed

i was living in a zone 10
neighbors grew bananas and i grew orchids outdoors year round
i had automatic water sprinklers every where Big Grin
i can't grow any of the same plants here without a greenhouse
and then some will only survive & not thrive

What an absolutely excellent idea! Perfect for city-living and those narrow, wasted space spots between houses.

This is amazing. Seems like a perfect spot for a green house. If you don't use it as a dog run, why not grow stuff! Love it.

I would think it would be a good idea to convince the HOA that everyone there should do this....

It looks great. Around here the city requires approval for every structure of any kind, and they won't let us put anything between the house and the property line like that because they say it could it be a fire hazard, helping the fire jump from one house to another.

I am going to do it anyway and take my chances My plants have grown so large, the garage becomes unusable when they are in there. It will be up only for a few months as our winters are short. I will use clear plastic as opposed to opaque so it won't be seen as well. Ours will be against the detached garage wall. It will be far from the street and both the street and the driveway curves so I don't think anyone can see it right off. I am willing to get a scolding letter from my HOA for this. Hilarious! But I will ask my neighbors to see if they mind at all.

Your fire danger is probably lower than ours, anyway. I'm just jealous. Green Grin!
I'm always scheming for more grow space.

A prior neghbor let me run a long, narrow flowerbed along HER side of the sidewalk dividing us. She moved out, and a real ##@#$%## moved in.

I had to move that whole bed off her property, so I repossesed the soil I had made and wheelbarrowed into it. Fortunately, the underlayer was rock-hard clay so it was easy to tell "whose soil was whose".

The wierd thing iks thaqt I mostly had tall things that would have screened my yard from her view, and she considerts my yard messy, and is very concerned with appearances. I think she cut off her nose to spite her face! But then she cut down eveything living she could in her yard, including two good trees and a flowering azealea!

She only had ONE spot left with any decent soil, so she set three huge, heavy ceramic pots on top of that soil (I guess to crush any earthworms ... the pots ar still empty.

It takes all kinds!
