An easy way to empty the fountain of water for cleaning is to create a siphon using an old piece of hose.

How do you successfully start the siphon, without sucking up a bunch of yuck?

I stretch the hose out from the fountain to where I want the water to run, then pull up a few feet to form a loop and fill it with water, then put your thumb over the open end to keep the water from running out until you stick it in the fountain water, then drop the loop on the ground, it may take a little practice, but it works great. I let the water run out on the grass.

Thanks, Margaret! After I posed the ??, I went and read up on the net. Same instructions you just gave me!

Aquarium water isn't the best flavor in my palate repertoire! (Years ago, when I was a silly teenager raising tropical fish -- sometimes I timed the suction just right -- sometimes I didn't!)

Yeah, you're probably right. Rolling my eyes. And, I think it's why I could eat fish/seafood 365 days of the year!

Wish I liked fish/seafood that much, mostly I just tolerate it once in awhile. Shrug! Guess I should have ingested some dirty fish tank water when I was a kid! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Gas is really not good to suck in! I use 2 plastic hoses to syphon gas.

RJ, I was curious about the two-hose method, so I googled. Looks like it'll work for siphoning from any closed container (like a gas tank). https://www.wikihow.com/Siphon...
