I found placing the cage on top of a vessel of similar diameter works great for sifting out small stones. Add a shovel full or two and stir by hand. Begin sifting once the load lightens or discard the remaining. I used glue to attach a jar lid to the hole on the rear cage. Two tools from the same fan!

@Suga - What you did to re-purpose the fan is brilliant. I'm always looking for hanging planters. Since this week is our 'bulk trash' pickup week (once a month), I'm going to be cruising my 'hood looking for dead fans!

Dang it! Bulk trash got picked up a day early this month. Didn't even have time to cruise around the 'hood. Maybe next month.
