Is anyone seeing migratory birds in Texas? One of our neighbors reported seeing "thousands" of migrating robins early this morning on the greenbelt by Barton Creek. The neighbors are new to TX and are asking if there are other sites they could go to look for birds that are flying back north. I immediately thought of the bird forum here, but most of the posters are from FL and the East coast. @LindaTX8 maybe?

Sorry, Sandi...Robins are a rare sight here anyway. I've heard/seen some flocks of birds flying over up high, but not many.

Thanks, Linda. I did Google Birding Groups in Austin and came up with at least 8 groups that "bird watch" in the immediate area. As for robins, I think we've only seen a few in our yard in over 30 years!
Can't get DH to go with me to the greenbelt today. The cedar trees are still blowing pollen everywhere.

oh I hope you're right Sandi - means they are heading here - a first sign of Spring....we need it

We had them come through here by the thousands gorging on the flaming sumacs. Left red bird presents everywhere! I have not seen any the past few days but they have been through here in the last few weeks in huge numbers. I do not recall seeing them come through here before. The most obvious spring bird here for us is the cedar wax wings flying together in huge flocks until they split off in pairs to do their mating thing later in the season than most birds.

We've had a few unfamiliar visitors but no large flocks.Red Winged Blackbirds are usually among the first. When we lived nearer to Houston, Robins often arrived in January but not here.

My friend in Selma (TX) said her Lady Banks Rose (AKA a forest) was full of a flock of singing, chirping birds today!

I posted photos on the bird forum - several robins in my tree - we moved to fort bend/sugar land last year. I've not seen robins before. Two mockingbirds chased each other.
I was woken up by various birds singing that morning.

I finally saw the robins yesterday...all day. They really were in the hundreds, but not "thousands" behind the fence in the trees. I would have missed the show if we hadn't had company and been outside all afternoon. It was quite a treat!
Someone said we were on the North American flyway, but that the drought had kept the birds away from from our area for a few years. Not enough berries, etc.
