Lately (over the past couple of weeks or so) I've been having issues with uploading images. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm working from Google Chrome; Windows 10 Home. Taking a very long time or not uploading at all, seems to be in all areas of this website; plants database and/or various threads. Every now and then it does work though. Shrug!

I'm not having this problem on other websites and am able to upload photos quickly elsewhere.

Not noticing anything on my end, but that don't mean there isn't something going on here. Let's have @Dave to take a look-see.

Thank you for checking. Thumbs up Thinking it might be a site issue since I'm able to upload pics no problem elsewhere. I just checked on three various other sites with no problem uploading my pictures.

I have no idea why you might not be able to upload photos. I haven't heard this report from anyone else. What is it doing when you try to upload? Any error message or anything at all?

I don't know why either but hoping maybe you would. I didn't notice anyone else having trouble Shrug! but decided to report anyway just in case. Doesn't say any error, only that it is uploading, gives the percentage to complete, when complete it says waiting for garden.org.

Okay, as you can see, sometimes it works. Sometimes it goes on for several minutes and I just give up. I thought maybe it's my internet provider as it can be slow but since I wasn't having any trouble uploading on other sites, I wondered. Guess it's just one of those things. Confused

How large are the pics?
I usually run my pics through irfanview, and get them down to a reasonable size before attempting to upload them anywhere.

I've run into the whole "won't upload" thing with those unresized pics too.

At my house.... I have to remove the image card from the camera, insert into computer, crop & resize with irfanview, save into a thumb drive, take to library.... And then upload somewhere on the Internet.

This site is usually pretty easy to upload to, and to post pics from my blog....

Hi Stone,

Thanks for your input and trying to help. I appreciate it. I don't think it's pic size because they have been the same size for about ten years and the problem uploading is new.

Best guess to the problem is the internet provider which is satellite. Something to do with band width? Unfortunately we don't have any other options where I live and upgrades don't seem to help! So for now it looks like I'll just stay frustrated.

Try resizing...
Makes a lot of difference....

I start with a 4 mb photo....
Resize to 70 kb... Uploads almost instantly.

Satellite Internet sounds great!
What is it costing you?

I'd be thrilled with dial-up at this point...

Okay, I'll give resizing a try. Thank you.

Satellite, Hughes Net, is running right around $100 a month.

And have to say, you made me feel much better about having satellite because it's faster than dial up for sure! Rolling on the floor laughing

Now try it at 800 x 600 px...

Your pic is still too large for an average screen...

After learning a good size to fit the screen. we can work on save quality...

Thumb of 2017-02-13/stone/e5d5b6
As you can see, I like about 43%

Here's the deal....

Those pics that you can't hardly upload....
we can't hardly enlarge...

Those pics that are small enough to instantly upload, we can see a lot easier when we're surfing on iffy restaurant wifi.

I used to work on my website with dial-up, and I learned a lot about slow downloads...

If you do have very limited bandwidth, smaller files would help. It's easy enough to test. If you aren't able to resize your pictures, you could just try it with any small picture. Our profile pictures here are only around 5KB. You could right click to save it to your computer, and then try to re-upload it in a post. If that doesn't even work, then size is not the issue for sure. If it does work it might be the size or even something else about your pictures that is goofing it up.

Have you tried using a web browser other than Chrome to upload pics here? It might be a browser setting or add-on problem. Also, you could try running a speed test to see if your upload and download speeds are around what they should be for your level of internet service. http://www.speedtest.net/

Sometimes I think the problem is just that your web traffic is getting stuck at a particularly slow node between you and the website's server. Kind of like the postal service when your package sits at one place for days on end, or takes the scenic route across the country just to go one state over!

Ack, sorry! I have to remember to reload the browser tab I left open for hours before typing up a reply and sending it. *Blush* Glad the smaller picture worked!

I've been resizing mine to 800px before I upload here lately, because it seemed like the ones I didn't were too big to view easily. Some sites allow you to upload large pictures, but then immediately resize them before saving to their server. Some sites save the big original files, but just display them smaller so they fit on the screen better. Others request that you resize pics smaller yourself before uploading.

Stone, here it is 800x578 ~

that uploaded really quickly.

Molanic, I did try using IE instead of Chrome with same result. I was going to try Firefox but for some reason it's no longer there, not sure how it got eliminated. I haven't made the effort to try to upload it again. My computer has a mind of its own and since I'm a computer dummy, the computer wins most of the time. Hilarious! That's a great explanation of traffic on the internet highway! Thumbs up

Just want to say how much I love Irfanview! Such a wonderful but powerful free program. I've been using it a lot recently for batch processing. I set it up to prepare photos for optimum display on my Grandma's electronic picture frame. It takes a whole folder of pictures and resizes them, adds captions and dates directly onto the picture using the file's metadata, then saves them to a new folder. It takes less that a second a photo to run through the whole batch.

Interesting, may look into Irfanview. My camera came with a photo program which is what I'm using. It resized pictures pretty easily. I have to take new things slow, like an old dog trying to learn new tricks. HA!

Last year, new computer, new camera and new cell phone! Blinking

Stone, and Molanic, you both have been very helpful. It's actually starting to sink in!

Ok, it's still 146 KB.... But yer gettin there.... Glad to be helping someone else post nice pics on the internet...

I misspoke earlier....
My pics aren't 700 kb, they're usually about 50 to 80 kb.

And that's still large enough.

If you use Hughesnet for internet you need to be aware that their service is metered. If you go over a certain bandwidth limit in a month they will severely throttle your download/upload speeds to that of about a dial-up connection until the month resets.
