I live in a kinda rough semi wild rual area. You know, land of the tumble weed, catus & yucca. I have an acre of land so space is not much of an issue. Have you ever used the drum from a cloths dryer for a large planter? They are easily painted. I have even used stencils to create some cool designs. If you set them on a board before filling with dirt, they can be moved around the yard with the aid of a hand dolly if you decide you want them in some other spot.

That sounds like a great, creative planter! I bet it would be gorgeous with some of the native cactus and aloes. You may just start a craze in the neighborhood. I have a 300+ gallon rain tank that I've always wanted to paint, but it "sweats" and I'm afraid the paint would peel off. I guess you wouldn't have the humidity to deal with there.

When I was little, my mother made my dad drive from Roswell, NM to Biloxi, MS with a huge tumbleweed tied to the top of the car....two days. At home, she dipped (what was left of) the tumbleweed into pink liquid starch, sprinkled it with artificial snow flakes and stuffed it into a neighbor's fireplace for Xmas. It was quite a hit!

Lol on the tumble weed story. Here, there is someone who makes a giant snowman out of tumble weeds, sprays it white & decorates it every year along I-40 interstate.

I bet that drum would look great with salvias, or zinnias, too. Paint the sides of the drum dark green with long sweeps of grasses in lighter colors. Oh, the possibilities!

Years ago, I used the drum from an old washing machine as a planter, and the frame became a composter.

@Philipwonel I didn't have a say in that caper. My mother had to have it. However, years later, I made my husband tie a tumbleweed onto our car somewhere in west Texas and drive it home to San Antonio. I guess....like mother, like daughter! Looked great I our fireplace for Christmas!
