Who would like to resurrect our South Western Gardening forum? It saddens me to see that the last post there was 8 months ago!
The forum would be open to everyone and anyone who would like to participate---of course
but I see the South West Gardening forum as a gift for us who reside in our unique corner of the world---zones 9B- 11.
The S.W. Garden forum has kindly been created for us. Why not put it to good use?
The idea was to make discussions more specific and centric when it comes to our type of gardening climate and to our indigenous plants such as Barrels, Agaves, Aloes, Ocotillo, Ferocacti, Chollas, Hedge Hogs, Prickly Pears, Saguaros, etc..
Also what better way to hone in on our particular trial and tribulations of gardening such as:
---How do you handle 40 degrees in winter and 110+ in the summer.
and humidity that is typically below 15%.
----How exactly does one deal with 4 types of soil in one yard (sand, clay, caliche and just 'dirt')?
---Addressing specific S.W. plant fertilizing and watering needs and soil amendments.
----That sun, you know that sun only we desert dwellers understand!
----What does one plant that can shake, bake fry and NOT die when it is 110+ in the shade.
----Does it grow here and will I kill it.
----What exactly does one do with tumble weed?
----Dust storms and Haboobs.
---- How to keep our native critters from treating our plants like a salad bar--including the wild horse population!
I thought it would be fun for all to talk about the beauty of our deserts, spaces and open places we see and experience daily but others do not.
Trade ideas for our landscaping and gardens. Most people do not have to consider the fact they have rocks for their front yard and back instead of grass.
Discussions about our local and state parks, botanical garden tours, hiking, exploring our landscape and outdoor activities.
Swap information on fun and informative lectures, teachings, and educational seminars being given around our areas and community events.
Of course many more topics and discussions welcomed and hopefully many contributions will be made from all in zones 9-11.
Would others like to help me revive our S.W. Gardening forum and take advantage of the space and place given to us to discuss such matters?
